Bridge Foundry is a volunteer-led organization, inclusive of all the Bridges

  • In 2017, we created a US Corp: Bridge Foundry, Inc.
    • US Board of Directors & CEO have fiduciary & governance responsibility for corporate activities
    • Obtained insurance covering Board of Directors liability & volunteer activities of the organization
    • Applied for and was granted 501c3 status by the IRS
  • In 2019, formed a UK Steering Committee to create a plan for UK Charitable Organization

US Corp 501c3 activities...

We help organizations train, mentor, network, and encourage people to fully participate in using and creating technology. We reach out to people who are traditionally underserved and underrepresented amongst the makers of technology.

We provide online resources, open source curriculum, and other support infrastructure for an extended volunteer network to host in-person workshop events and online events and activities where participants learn coding and other technical or communications skills through hands-on projects and interactive activities. These workshops currently exist for a variety of programming languages, for each of which there is a “Bridge” (examples include RailsBridge, GoBridge, ClojureBridge, and more). Local volunteers are empowered to host single workshops or establish active “chapters” within a Bridge. We also offer self-serve curriculum for technical skills (such as test-first development) and teaching skills (for parents, school teachers and volunteers).

Our other activities include:

  • Conflict resolution and inclusion training for volunteers and employers
  • Informal study groups, hack sessions, and other gatherings that support the growth of participants
  • Volunteer collaborative software development projects that provide participants opportunities to strengthen their skills, such as programming, product definition, project management, and design.
