➤ Summer Intensive: Specialist selective courses that count toward your MSW requirements

➤ Learn the history of Social Work as a profession: gain perspective on the roots of the social work profession and social welfare policy by walking the path of the Settlement House movement in both London and NYC

➤ An integrated learning experience: through the integration of community-based and classroom learning, focus on current settlement house practices and their role in NYC and London communities of today

➤ Encounter both Macro and Micro practice: courses and agency visits focus attention on the structures, processes, and methods that empower communities and build the capacities of individuals, families, groups, and organizations through community-based practice and group work

➤ Go International: engage in international comparative study uniquely offered at the graduate-level

NEW YORK CITY July 20 - 22

• Introduction Reception & Program Overview
• Lecture panel with Community Practice experts
• Lower East Side agency and community visits
• Classes and NYC activities take place Monday - Wednesday (9:00am - 5:00pm)

• Arrival: by Sunday, August 2nd
• August 3rd (Monday): Breakfast and London Centre Introductions
• Classes, activities and London agency visits take place

How much does the Program cost?

• Tuition: exactly the same as other 3-credit courses
• Administrative fee ($350)

NEW YORK: Online students may need to travel and find local accommodations for the New York segment of the program

​

LONDON: Travel and accommodations for the 2-week London segment of the program

• Approximate cost for Airfare = $1,200
• Approximate cost for Accommodations while taking the courses in London:
• Approximate max per-night rate for non-Fordham lodging in London = $349
• Approximate max daily meal/incidental rate = $171 (as of 2023)
• Transportation costs: to/from airport, weekdays for classes and agency visits
• Phone/data plan

Fordham-Arranged Housing Option

• Discounted flats (apartments, not dorms)
• Includes in-unit kitchen and washer/dryer
• One block away from Fordham London Centre

Approximate rates for 2026 Program:

SINGLE = $960/week

DOUBLE (shared with GSS classmate) = $540/week

• Great way to save money overall (discount weekly rate, walk to classes, dine-in with GSS friends)
• Best rates if our GSS group books early (usually by the end of February)

• ALL GENERALIST REQUIREMENTS MUST BE COMPLETE

• YOU MUST HAVE A PASSPORT VALID FOR TRAVEL
• Check your passport: if it will expire within 6 months after you are expected to return from London, you may need to renew it.
• Keep in mind: U.S. State Department processing times for issuing and renewing passports have been increasing.
• Students with non U.S.-issued passports are responsible for securing appropriate documentation to travel to the UK for the Program.
• UK requirements for an ETA (“Electronic Travel Authorisation”) are in effect

• ATTENTION: ONLINE STUDENTS IN FIELD PLACEMENT FOR THE SUMMER TERM

You must secure advance written approval from your placement site supervisor/field instructor to step away from field tasks for all dates of the Program (NYC and London). Academic Affairs will work with the Field Education Department to facilitate this.

ELIGIBILITY / REQUIREMENTS

• Select students who participate in the London Summer Program will have an opportunity continue their stay in London and participate in a field placement with one of our London community partners during the first half of their Specialist Year

​

• Placements will take place August 2026 - November 2026

​

• Students will complete approximately 250 hours over 10 weeks

​

• Students placed in London will participate in online specialist year Field Placement sessions, as well as Specialist selective courses through our online program in Fall 2026 (Session I and Session II) allowing them to keep in step with their Plan of Study

​

• Students will complete the second half of their specialist year placement back in the U.S. (Spring 2027) in a Settlement House or a related community-based agency
