How secure is the new DMA

Stringent checks were done to ensure that the solution comply to MOE’s security requirements.

What is the new DMA solution?

LightSpeed Systems® is the new DMA to manage Chromebook PLDs.

What does it consist?

It will have the same components to ensure that the PLDs can be used effectively for teaching and learning.

How is my privacy safeguarded?

The DMA does not collect data to monitor your personal messages and track your location.

The Components of the New MOE DMA

Classroom Management Service (CMS)

Usage �Management �Service (UMS)

The DMA has three components.

Mobile Device Management Service (MDM)

Allows the installation of relevant apps for learning and helps support device security

Helps your teacher manage the PLDs during lessons, and to easily share relevant apps, websites and lesson materials

Protects you from harmful online content, and sets helpful limits on the use of the PLD

During School Hours

MOE DMA will follow MOE/School settings for:

Web content filtering including social media sites, pornography, gambling, extremist and violence-related sites

Apps and programs installed for teaching and learning

After School Hours

After school, the DMA settings will continue by default. Restrictions to PLD usage time will also apply.

However, your parents may have different preferences for after-school PLD use.

Your parents can choose between two other options, in addition to the Default option.

After School Hours: From 4 p.m. onwards

How well am I able to regulate my device usage on my own?
Do I get easily distracted while doing online learning?

Consider having a conversation with your parents on which setting is best suited for your learning

Which After-School DMA Parent Option is the best for me?

What are the Different After-School DMA Parent Options?

Default	Option A	Option B
In-school DMA settings will continue after school hours For parents/guardians who want their child’s/ward’s use of the device to be restricted only to teaching and learning, and prefer to leave it to the school to decide on DMA settings after school hours.	DMA settings can be modified by Parents/Guardians after school hours For parents/guardians who prefer to take charge of the level of restrictions for their child’s/ward’s use of the device after school hours regulated by the DMA.	DMA will be inactive* after school hours For parents/guardians who do not want their child’s/ward’s use of the device after school hours to be regulated by the DMA at all.

The school will provide your parents/guardians with more information on exercising the options.
Your parents/guardians can request to change their choice of After-school DMA Parent Option, which is the existing practice.

*No data will be collected after school hours when the DMA is inactive.

Parents will be asked to indicate their After-School DMA Parent Options under the new MOE DMA.
Parents will also be receiving information on the new MOE DMA via PG notification on the same day as the students’ engagement, thus students should have a conversation with their parents on the After-School DMA Parent Options based on their current learning needs and the use of PLDs after school hours.

[Note to schools]

School hours refer to the time within which students are involved in structured learning activities within the school, including time allocated for CCAs and enrichment programmes. The hours are defined by the school.
The parent options (Default, Option A and Option B) will remain but there could be a difference in the types of functions available to the parents under each option based on the new DMA solution.
Parents will be asked to indicate their After-School DMA Parent Options. After which, they will still be allowed to change their options accordingly. Schools can decide how often (e.g., weekly, fortnightly, or monthly) they would implement changes in the choice of After-School DMA Options and inform parents/guardians accordingly.

The new MOE DMA will be installed on your PLDs on 4 November 2024 for those whose parents selected either Default and Option A After-School DMA Parent options.

You will need to ensure that your PLD is switched on after 12 noon and ensure that it is connected to the internet for at least 30 minutes on that day. The icon for the new DMA will appear on your PLD once it has been successfully deployed. No further action is required.

Please complete the data backup process based on the SLS self-paced module shared with you prior to the installation date.

[For Chromebook PLDs] What can you expect

Students on the previous Option B After-School DMA Parent Option will have the new MOE DMA deployed on 6 January 2025.

You will need to ensure that your PLD is switched on after 12 noon and ensure that it is connected to the internet for at least 30 minutes on that day. The icon for the new DMA will appear on your PLD once it has been successfully deployed. No further action is required.

Please complete the data backup process based on the SLS self-paced module shared with you prior to the installation date.
