Abram and Lot Separate
Genesis13-14
Abram and Lot traveled from place to place. Settled in Bethel. Abram worshiped God.
Both Abram and Lot were very rich. Lots of flocks and gold and silver.
Land did not have enough food or water for all the flocks.
Abram and Lot herders begin to argue
Abram said to Lot, “We are the same family. Let us not argue. You go one way. I go the opposite.
Lot looked around. He saw that the whole Jordan River valley toward the town of Zoar had plenty of water. It was like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt.
So Lot chose the whole Jordan River valley for himself. Then he started out toward the east.
Lot picks the best land. People of Sodom evil against God.
Lot took family and belongings and moved east. Lot put his tents near city of Sodom.

God promises Abram all the land he sees. The land is forever. God says Abram’s family will be same as dust.
God said, “Can dust be counted? If it can, then your family can be counted.
Abram then lived near Hebron. He build altar to honor God.

Kings of the land started war.
Kings took all things in Sodom and Gomorrah.
Lot and all he owned was taken away.
A man escaped war and reported to Abram.
Abram gathered his troops. Abram attacked the enemy and rescued Lot and all Lot owned. Abram brought back the women and other people too.
As they returned from the battle they met a great King. His name was Melchizedek. He was king of Salem, which means 'peace'. Melchizedek brought bread and wine to Abraham, and said, "You are greatly favored by God Most High. He delivered your enemies into your hand.“
Then Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of everything.

Then king of Sodom wanted to give gifts to Abram. Abram refused gifts. Abram not accept gifts from wicked king. Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to make a promise to the Lord. He is the Most High God. He is the Creator of heaven and earth. I will not accept anything that belongs to you. I will not take even a thread or the strap of a sandal. You will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’ However, Lot was foolish. He went to live in Sodom again. |
