Hello, I'm a law-curious policy quant from Toronto but living in Montreal. I work as an Associate at a Toronto-based public policy evaluation non-profit, where I build data pipelines and do statistical modelling for government clients, mostly in the areas of social housing and income security. I have an MPP from Cambridge and I'm due to start my JD at Harvard Law School in 2023, but I might try to defer again.

Alex Rand
Anna Kohte is a research assistant and PhD candidate at the Europa-Institute, Germany and a doctoral fellow of the Heinrich-Böll foundation. Her research focuses on International Human Rights Law and International Criminal Law. She holds a law degree from Humboldt University, Berlin, a master's degree in International Law from Panthéon Assas University (Paris II) and a master's degree in Public International Law from the University of Amsterdam. Among other institutions, she has been a Carlo-Schmid fellow at the International Criminal Court and has done research stays at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the Legal Institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Anna Kohte
Bessie is currently a DPhil Student in Psychiatry at the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on the ethics of using AI in healthcare, and she holds degrees in law, criminology, neuroscience and history.

Bhumika Billa
Hi, I’m Daniel. I’m a second year law and philosophy student at the Australian National University, and an editor at the ANU Journal of Law and Technology, and the Australian Yearbook of International Law. I’m interested in the intersection between law and technology, and the ways criminal law can be used to negate the potential harm from technological advancements.

Eli Barrish
Emilio is a last year Law student at ITAM (Mexico City) and research assistant on law and humanities, culture, and aesthetics. He organized a reading group in Legal Priorities Research and is currently finishing his thesis on the anthropology of law.

Emilio Martínez Tejeda
Fengquan (Eric) Wang comes from China and earns his LLB at Peking University Law School. He has been awarded National Scholarship by the Ministry of Education of the PRC for three years and is ranked first in his major. As a member of the "Yan Fu Honors Program for Young Talents in Social Sciences", he is committed to conducting empirical legal research, with a particular focus on civil procedural law, judicial reform, and the rule of law. With an interest in dispute resolution, he was also the captain of the Peking University team at the 18th Willem C. Vis East International Commercial Arbitration Moot, where he won the Top 32 in the globe (ranked eighth in the general rounds) together with his teammates and was the Best Advocate (tied for first among 456 oralists). Plus, He had an internship at the UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific. In 2021, he was selected as the Rhodes Scholar in China constituency and is going to pursue the MJur degree at the University of Oxford from September 2022.

Fengquan (Eric) Wang
Gaurav is a first, going into second, year law student at the University of Bristol. They are a summer intern at The Centre for Effective Altruism, the co-president of Effective Altruism Bristol and previously helped start the Bristol Animal Welfare Project. They’re interested in biosecurity, animal welfare and s-risks. They also do improv and live a double life as a standup comedian.

Gaurav Yadav
Giuliana Rotola is a space law and policy researcher. She is a Ph.D. student in Sustainable Development and Climate Change at Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, and she works as Implementation Support Officer for the Global Expert Group on Sustainable Lunar Activities (GEGSLA). She worked at European Southern Observatory in External Relations and Science Policy Affairs on the impact of satellite constellations on astronomy and as a summer research fellowship with the Legal Priorities Project. She holds a joint bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Trento in Comparative, European, and Transnational Law and a Master of Space Studies from the International Space University (ISU). Before joining ISU, she conducted research at the European Centre for Space Law (ECSL - ESA) and in the Institut du Droit de l'Espace et des Télécommunications (IDEST), and worked at the Leuven Center for Global Governance Studies. Giuliana was also a research fellow at the Open Lunar Foundation, a 2020 Fellow in Space Studies at the Foresight Institute, and a Legal Council of For All Moonkind. Within the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), she serves as Policy and Advocacy Coordinator and as Space Law and Policy Project Group Co-Lead.

Giuliana Rotola
Graham is completing his Master’s in Diplomatic Studies at the University of Oxford, where he focuses his research on Congressional oversight and foreign assistance programs. He has held various roles working for the U.S. Federal Government and Congress, as well as for an NGO in Africa. He is passionate about international development and foreign policy and hails from Ozark, Missouri.

Graham Higgins
I’m a student at the University of Michigan, studying CS and political science. I’m also a researcher at the MIT Media Lab, where I study natural language processing for empirical legal analysis, with the goal of using new methods in computational linguistics to better understand the law and lower barriers to justice. I also work with the Stanford d.school; the Michigan Center for Ethics, Society, and Computing; with Amnesty International as a legislative coordinator and board member; and with IKEA’s experimental design lab, Space10.

Harry Sanders
Janna is a technology and corporate lawyer at Allen & Overy in Sydney, Australia, and is admitted to practise in New South Wales and New Zealand. She completed her LLB (Honours) and BA in Philosophy and Politics at the University of Auckland, and holds a diploma in classical piano. Previously, she worked in legal tech product development and ran an online magazine. Her essays and poetry have been published and anthologised in a number of literary journals.

Janna Tay
Jide is a second year law student at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, Canada. His main interest is finding governance strategies for transformative AI that can provide AI safety researchers with more time to solve technical problems. He spent the summer doing AI governance research at Polaris Ventures (formerly the Center for Emerging Risk Research) to help inform their grantmaking efforts.

Jide Alaga
José Jaime Villalobos is an International Law & Policy Fellow at the Legal Priorities Project. His current work focuses on advocacy for the reduction of global catastrophic and existential risk through international law and impact litigation. José holds a PhD from Victoria University of Wellington and an LLM (international law) from the University of Cambridge, which he obtained as a Chevening Scholar. He has held roles in government, academia, private practice and not-for-profit organisations, including Co-Founder and Chief Editor of the Costa Rican Journal of International Law.

José Jaime Villalobos
Juan Carlos currently works as a judicial law clerk at the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice. His areas of interest include free speech, privacy, and regulation of information technologies. In the last couple of years, he’s focused on questions related to platform governance. He studied Law at the Instituto Technológico Autónomo de Mexico (ITAM) and later pursued a masters in Public Policy in Global Affairs at Yale University as a Fulbright grantee. He has experience as a lawyer on personal data protection and as an advisor on international trade negotiations.

Katharina Schumacher
Kaustubh Chaturvedi is going to graduate from the National Law School of India University with a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) in 2023. After this, he intends to practice as an advocate before the Supreme Court of India, while simultaneously (he hopes) doing research work in the fields of institutional design and artificial intelligence. He is currently running a start-up to help students gain admission to elite law school, and spending his remaining time trying to launch a podcast focusing on storytelling about sports and experimenting with new recipes.

Kiran Chawla
Marco acts as the legal and procurement the United Nations System Staff College. Before joining the UN System he worked as a postdoc at KU Leuven and the University of Luxembourg on law and technology. He holds a master degree in jurisprudence and a joint PhD in law, science and technology from the University of Bologna and the University of Luxembourg.

Marco Crepaldi
Hi, I'm Matthew. I recently graduated from the University of Oxford with a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics, and I'm now studying for a Master's in Philosophy in my hometown of Dublin. Much of my work experience to date has been in Pro Bono law, which has informed my thinking about the philosophy of punishment and the design of justice systems.

Matthew Price
Mick recently graduated with a BA in Law (First Class) from Oxford University. He did stints at various top global law firms but, feeling like many problems in the world required more than legal knowledge, he pivoted to work at the Blavatnik School of Government and a civic data visualisation studio. Currently he’s travelling the USA under an Oxford University college grant to research building and using technology and tech methods for good by connecting with people in the space. The pillars of LPP that he’s most drawn to are improving the study and practice of law by incorporating empirical and multidisciplinary approaches to improve institutional decision-making.

Mick Yang
Nathan Calvin recently graduated from Stanford Law School with a joint degree in law and public policy. In the fall, Nathan will be working as a science and technology policy legislative fellow in the US Senate. He previously worked on emerging technology policy with Oxford’s Future of Humanity Institute, the Open Philanthropy Project, the Legal Priorities Project, and the Stanford Existential Risk Initiative.

Nathan Calvin
Noam Kolt is a Research Affiliate at the Legal Priorities Project and a doctoral candidate at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. His research focuses on contract law and the governance of artificial intelligence. Noam was appointed an inaugural Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society Graduate Fellow and held an Ethics of AI Graduate Research Fellowship at the University of Toronto Centre for Ethics. Noam’s scholarship has been published or is forthcoming in the Berkeley Technology Law Journal, Yale Law & Policy Review, International Journal of Constitutional Law, and Melbourne University Law Review.

Noam Kolt
Peter is a DPhil Scholar in law at the Future of Humanities Institute and Wadham College, University of Oxford. Peter’s research focuses on the application of black letter private law doctrine to machine learning. Peter's previous law-related addresses include Cambridge, Harvard and clerkships at a Canadian appeals court and the Supreme Court of Canada. He's based primarily in Toronto, Ontario.

Peter Wills
Priscilla Guo is a 2L at Stanford Law School. At SLS, she serves as Co-President of the Asian and Pacific Islander Law Students Association and member editor of the Stanford Law Review. Most recently, as a Policy Advisor for the Day One Project, she curated, developed, and advised science and technology policy proposals to inform the Biden-Harris Administration and Congress. Previously, she served as a representative on the New York City Youth Board and has worked in both technology and public policy roles at Facebook, Microsoft, Electronic Frontier Foundation, and NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Priscilla holds an M.S. in Global Affairs from Tsinghua as a Schwarzman Scholar, M.Sc. in the Social Science of the Internet from Oxford as a Clarendon Scholar, and a B.A. in Technology, Policy, and Society with a secondary in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Harvard University.

Priscilla Guo
I am an Australian trained lawyer who has relocated to the UK. I have just finished my master's degree in Law at Oxford, focusing on public law and environmental law in particular and am currently working as an RA on a project looking at strategic climate change litigation against corporations. Previously I have worked in litigious environments at law firms and as an judge's associate. I also completed a mathematics degree at the University of Sydney, concurrently with my LLB so I am very keen to chat about all aspects of the science/law interface.

Sean seeks to help local, state, and federal policymakers craft an effective intergovernmental strategy that tackles long-term technology challenges of common concern. In his first job at the US Justice Department, Sean helped to coordinate 30+ state attorneys general in a joint effort that blocked the largest proposed merger in the history of the US health insurance industry. Later, he became the first community manager at Apolitical, a digital learning platform for government, growing the network from launch to 110,000 policymakers across 170 countries. This past summer, he supported the Colorado Attorney General’s Office as it writes first-in-the-nation regulations on automated decision-making and deceptive design. After working in Chile and the UK, Sean is currently pursuing a joint-degree between Georgetown Law and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Sumaya Nur is a final-year law student at Strathmore University in Nairobi. Her research interests lie in the intersection of law and artificial intelligence. Sumaya's previous work has concentrated on the regulation of facial recognition algorithms, algorithmic bias as well as artificial intelligence and liability. Sumaya intends to do her further studies in AI Safety and governance.

Taís is a PhD researcher in the programme “Artificial Intelligence & International Law” in the Department of Governance and Innovation at the University of Groningen. Her doctoral research focuses on AI governance, AI ethics, military innovation, and arms control. Throughout the past years, she has worked on the intersection between technology and society. Her research interests include topics such as the intersection of policy, information technology, government, and the public; governance and regulation of digital technologies; and ethical issues of digital technologies. She is a member of the Data Research Centre (Campus Fryslan), a Fellow in the Evolving Digital Society research group at the Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG), and an international research fellow at the Research Center in Information Society Law (ISLC), University of Milan. She holds a MA in Politics and International Relations from the University of Durham (UK) and an LL.B. degree from Universidade Feevale, Brazil.

Todd is an incoming PhD candidate in Competition Law at UCL. His research focuses on the intersection between complex systems science and competition law. He holds an M.Sc in Politics and Technology from the Technical University of Munich and a B.Sc in Computer Science from the University of Manchester. Prior to starting his PhD, he worked as a software engineer in security/privacy at Google Munich for six years.

Veronica is an LLB penultimate year student at the University of Hong Kong and will be a visiting student at the University of Cambridge in the coming academic year. She is passionate about community work. She is a founding volunteer at the Access to Justice Fellowship, and is an Equal Opportunity Student Ambassador on campus. She also actively explores policy-making and legislative drafting experiences, by being a Youth Ambassador under the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau to assist the Chief Executive in drafting youth policies; and being an advocate at the Children Council.

Vardev is currently a Wellcome Trust PhD Candidate (One Health Models of Disease) at the University of Edinburgh and is interested in biosecurity and biosafety within research lab settings. He hopes to look into workplace settings and relationships in with respect to the legal infrastructures set up to regulate research practices. They are also intrigued by STS, bioethics, mental health and human enhancement. His research thus spans far and wide. Dev also leads the management of coaching services at Effective Thesis. They aim to ensure that the coaching services are helpful, nurturing and constructive for all students and that they are able to support PhD and graduate students with their research careers. They spend their free time traveling, watching movies and as a football/soccer coach!

Zeena is molecular biologist turned policy researcher passionate about addressing the lag between biotechnology innovation and policy. Previously, Zeena was a policy research fellow at the Wilson Center where she worked on issues related to emerging biotechnologies, biosecurity, and genomic data sharing. Most recently, she was awarded a year-long fellowship with TechCongress to serve as a science and technology policy advisor to Congress. Zeena aims to pursue a career in public service where she can ensure that effective and informed policies are in place to support scientific innovation and while mitigating potential bio-risks. Zeena obtained her BA in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado and her MMS in Global Affairs from Tsinghua University as a Schwarzman Scholar. Zeena was also a Fulbright Scholar in Kyrgyzstan.
