Draft 2024 Educational Resources & Needs Survey Analysis

ANALYSIS

  1. The questions were based on the Framework of GSI Practice outline, shown at left.
  2. Members, especially local government members, drove the results. 60% of 182 respondents were members; 62% were local governments.
  3. The top 2 areas where respondents are knowledgeable but want to learn more are (1) Maintenance (60%); (2) Advancing Sustainability (59%). Many respondents reported having expertise/resources to share in these areas.
  4. The top 2 areas where respondents have limited knowledge but want to learn more are (1) GSI Procurement (31%); (2) Developing the GSI Workforce (25%). Fewer respondents reported having expertise/resources to share in these areas.
  5. How the Results Might Shape Future Programming
    1. We should create Roundtables of those who identified having expertise and resources to share across the 4 top topics to develop an outline of each. These outlines are a basis for the development of programming and inclusion into the Framework.
    2. With those outlines in hand, we can think about programming:
      1. Areas where respondents are knowledgeable and want to learn more (Maintenance, Advancing Sustainability): Have respondents review the outlines and specify which subtopics are most important to them. Develop learning circles for members and webinars for nonmembers around those topics. Invite those with expertise/resources to share to be presenters. If there is a subtopic for which there is no one with relevant expertise, hire a consultant develop a presentation on that topic using funding allocated for curriculum development or the re-grant program.
      2. Areas where respondents have limited knowledge and want to learn more (GSI Procurement, Developing the GSI Workforce): Use the outlines to develop short training modules that can be offered to members and nonmembers. Invite those with expertise/resources to contribute to development of the training. As necessary, hire a consultant to help with course module development using funding allocated for curriculum development or the re-grant program.
      3. For all new programming:
        1. Offer CEUs, especially for webinars and course modules.
        2. Repurpose materials into the GI Library and Framework of Practice, as appropriate.
