Not God’s Plan- God’s Mercy

Abram faithful to God. Abram and Sarai human. Try to believe God’s promise. Can’t understand how God will keep promise. Abram and Sarai devise own plan.

God promised Abram family same as dust. Family as many stars as sky. Abram would bring blessing to all nations. Abram not able to wait on God.

Abram going to have big family.

Abram and Sarai become older and older

No children born to them.

How will God keep His promise? Sarai makes plan of her own.

Sarai had Egyptian slave called Hagar. Sarai gave Hagar to Abram and told him to have a child with Hagar.

Once pregnant, Hagar despised Sarai.

Sarai treated Hagar badly.

Hagar ran away. Hagar stopped at a spring for a rest.

An Angel of the Lord came to Hagar. Angel asked, “Where are you going?”

Hagar replied she was running away from her owner Sarai. The angel told Hagar to return to her owner and obey her.

The angel told Hagar, “ The Lord hears your misery. Your descendants will be too many to count. You will give birth to a son. Call him Ishmael- means God hears.

Your son will be like a wild donkey. He will use his power against everyone. Everyone will be against him. He will not get along with any of his family.

Hagar obeyed. When child was born, he was named Ishmael. Hagar remembered God rescued her. Hagar proclaims, “You are the God who sees me.”

Abram was 86 years old when Ishmael was born.

The angel of the Lord found Hagar when she was alone and afraid. The Lord does the same for us. God is always near to those who trust and believe.

God keeps his promises. God promised Abram and Sarai a son. Abram and Sarai didn’t know how this would happen. Making own plans was not God’s plan. They must wait. God showed mercy to them.

Matthew 19:26

Jesus looked at them and said, “With people, this is impossible. But with God, all things are possible.”
