NHS ACTIVITIES

  • Monthly meetings – 2nd Thursday of the month at 7:40 am in the auditorium
  • “Souper Bowl” Food Drive to benefit Feed the Creek
  • Daily morning tutoring (juniors start in the spring, seniors are in the fall)
  • New Member Induction in November

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Eligible -- 3.6 GPA (unweighted)
  2. Applications hand submitted to Mrs. Burcham (1024) or Mr. Bisignani (1040) by October 16th
  3. Staff surveyed
  4. Faculty council meets to approve applicants
    • Each section awarded points that must average to 4.0
  5. All applicants notified of status by October 30th
  6. NHS Induction on November 8th at 6:30 pm

SCHOLARSHIP

  • First step in application process – you have already met this!
  • After Sophomore Year
  • Cumulative unweighted grade point average of 3.6 or higher
    • 5 points for a 4.0 to 4.6 GPA
    • 4 points for a 3.6 to 3.9 GPA

CHARACTER

  • This is not something included in your application. The BHS staff is surveyed and asked to assign a score of 1 to 5 to check the following:
    • Takes criticism willingly and accepts recommendations graciously
    • Upholds principles of morality and ethics
    • Complies with school regulations outside the classroom
    • Complies with instructions and rules inside the classroom
    • Demonstrates reliability
    • Shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others

SERVICE LETTERS – AFTER TABLE

  • Collect letters from sponsors that state the following:
    • Sponsor’s name
    • Phone number
    • Address and/or email address
    • Number of hours served and dates they were served
    • Specify what the service was

These can be written by you and signed by the sponsor.

  • If you did not attend Beavercreek High School for all of high school, start at the year and semester you enrolled.

  • Submit it neatly bound with one staple in the top left corner.
  • Do not submit any original documents you want returned. Make copies!

  • This is the primary element in determining selection for membership!

is not a right. We want everyone to be accepted, but there may be some that do not meet all the requirements.

WHAT IF I DON’T GET ACCEPTED TO NHS?

  • You will still be able to get into colleges and able to earn scholarships
  • Think about ways to improve your résumé
  • Become involved in service opportunities
  • Look for ways to be a leader
  • Build your character
  • Learn from past experiences!
  • Apply again next year (if you’re a junior)
