Abort Mission

By: Ja’Sha Bouie and Laiana Hunter

OVERVIEW

Abortion rights are fundamentally about the ability of individuals, particularly women and people capable of pregnancy, to make informed, autonomous decisions about their reproductive health. Central to this is the right to access safe, legal, and affordable abortion care without fear of discrimination, stigma, or government interference. These rights are deeply tied to the broader principles of bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom, which affirm that every person has the inherent right to control their own body, make decisions about if or when to have children, and determine the course of their reproductive lives based on their values, beliefs, and circumstances. The annual report from the Ohio Department of Health, which has been collecting induced abortion data since 1976, showed a total of 22,000 “induced pregnancy terminations” reported in the state in 2023, a 19% increase from the previous year, according to the ODH.

In Ohio, access to abortion has become increasingly restricted due to a series of legislative actions and shifting judicial interpretations. While Ohio voters passed a constitutional amendment in. The legal landscape remains uncertain, as lawmakers pursue policies that challenge or limit the implementation of the amendment through clinic regulations, mandatory waiting periods, and parental consent laws. These restrictions disproportionately affect low-income individuals, rural residents, and communities of color, who already face limited access to healthcare.

OBJECTIVES

  • Bring awareness to the issue of abortion rights, as it is often not talked about enough
  • By raising awareness, we can help educate others on the legal, ethical, and social aspects of abortion, which can in turn dispel harmful myths and reduce the stigma surrounding it.
  • To effectively address the issue of abortion rights, we suggest several key solutions: expanding access to reproductive healthcare, promoting comprehensive and medically.
