Market Overview

• Strong corporate earnings
• Visa, Spotify, UPS
• Strong large cap rally
• Lower interest rate hike expectations
• Prices are cooling down and a weaker job market
• Treasuries are falling

Consumer Confidence Falls

• Consumer confidence falls after 2 previous months of increases
• Rising concerns of inflation and a possible recession
• Consumers are concerned with the unknown lagged effects of the fed’s quantitative tightening
• Continuation of job cutting and more expensive debt
• Spending on big-ticket items spiked in October
• Appliances and motor vehicles
• Highest level since July 2020

Housing Market Continues to Cool Down

• Housing prices are still 13% up year over year
• Down 2.6% month over month
• Largest decline in history of Shiller Home Price Index
• Interest rate hikes are driving down demand for houses
• 30 Year Fixed Rate is 75% higher from March
• 3% - just over 7%
• Disincentivizing sellers

Elon Musk Near Close on Twitter Deal

• Elon Musk has until 5 PM Friday to close the $44 billion Twitter acquisition
• He faces the proposition of going to trial
• Elon plans to cut 75% of the workforce
• Reduces headcount from 7,500 to 2,000
• Cut costs and remove “bloat” from an “unproductive workforce”
• Elon will take the company private to avoid pressures from Wall Street
• His goal is improve profitability and increase competition against big players in the industry

Hedge Funds may see Changing Regulations

• SEC’s Division of Investment Management Director reiterated intentions to change regulations for hedge funds
• Prospective regulations, proposed in February, would require more detailed disclosures on performance and fees
• Would also require disclosures of preferential treatment towards investors
• SEC believes this will increase competition in the industry

• Chemours and NextGen both beat earnings
• NextGen’s FY2023 expectations revised upwards
