My Mentor

• My Mentor’s name is Manaswi (Mona) Kashyap.
• Mona ma’am works as a software engineer at Moody’s Analytics based in NYC
• She is currently completing her masters in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
• Mona ma’am grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, and she loves to cook, go on runs, and spending time with her family :)

My Project

• MAGICal journey to Gujarat
• Some of my goals this session included:
• Becoming proactive in expanding my knowledge of technology
• Learning coding skills and becoming proficient in programming
• Cultivating and developing an in-depth knowledge about STEM
• Making sure my website is accessible to anyone, anywhere, anytime�
• I wanted to learn how to create something that would be helpful to people in this way, therefore I decided to choose Web Development.�
• I found that Computer Science is full of continuous innovation and there are SO many exciting new things for me to learn!

My Project

• My website was created using Replit, a free platform for beginner web development.
• In the process of working on this website I learned HTML, CSS, and JavaScript using resources my mentor pointed out to me like W3Schools, GeeksforGeeks, Khan Academy.
• I also began getting familiar with the basics of SQL.

My Project

• Some additional features I would love to explore if given the chance would be a database integration with my website using some of the new SQL skills I’ve picked up.
• After completing the development of the website on Replit, I worked with my mentor to migrate the code to GitHub and to publish it to a GitHub Pages site linked to my very first Git repository. This allows the site to be publicly accessible and hosted on a free, open source platform that I can continue to update in the future!

My MAGICal Experience

• My project with MAGIC was an incredibly valuable opportunity. It offered me a chance to explore the STEM universe and enjoy its beauty.

• The lessons I learned while working on this project are useful tools that will help me in the future. I acquired the best communication, self-confidence, time management, resilience, and teamwork skills!

My MAGICal Experience

• I learned about the career path – Software development is challenging and fast-paced! So much to learn and innovate.

​

• I learned how to stay focused on what is required of me in the moment. I gained patience and became a time-conscious person.

​

• Time-management has always been one of the biggest challenges for me. Moreover, due to the different time zones it could sometimes become difficult to communicate.

My MAGICal Experience

Experience:-

• I enjoyed this MAGIC session as I got a chance to learn how to create a website.
• I learnt HTML, JAVASCRIPT and CSS.
• I learnt to debug the code using developer tools.

​

Challenges :-

• Make small changes and test frequently.
• When you define path and file names , case sensitivity is important.
• Debugging and testing can be time consuming. It can be made easier by using developer tools.
