What is a credit & why do I need them?

  • Students earn credit by passing their classes.
  • Each semester course is .5 credit.
  • All 9th grade students need to earn 2.5 Core Credits by the end of 9th grade to be eligible to attend CHS in 10th grade.

Specialized Programs

  • IB Program specializing in more intense courses, focusing on global issues and critical thinking skills. Must apply at the end of the 10th grade year. Students may “experience” the IB curriculum by taking “Honors” courses in the 9th and 10th grade. Click for more information.
  • CSMTech – Program specializing in math, science, and technology. It is an integrated program with acceleration within the courses. Students learn technology tools in 9th and 10th grades which carry them through the four-year program. Click for more information.
    • Applying students should have passed Algebra I by the end of their 8th grade year.

Specialized Programs

  • OSTC - Oakland Schools Technical Campus is an off campus program that focuses on hands on learning. Students typically acquire certification or endorsements in the program they study. Must apply within their 10th grade year. Click for more information.
  • Advanced Studies - Program for students who wish to participate in continuously rigorous & challenging academics in grades 8-12. This program will lead to an Advanced Studies Program endorsement on their diploma. Acceptance is based on a 3.0 GPA in all core subject areas, a narrative essay completed by the student, and a signed parent letter of intent. Click for more information.

Specialized Programs

  • Clarkston Career Technical Education (CTE) - This program offers educational benefits to students pursuing careers requiring specific technical skills, as well as providing a strong foundation for those pursuing a traditional four-year (or more) degree. Career tech pathways include Engineering, Computer Science, and Teacher Education. Click for more information.

  • Construction Tech - The district offers an innovative construction technology pathway aimed at introducing students to skills that could be used in their future careers. Students in the program will be taught a hybrid of technology, engineering, math and construction skills, directly applying what they learn in the math portion of the program to their construction projects.   • CJHS Counselors will be available during lunches on Thursday, March 3rd to answer questions that you may have.
  • All scheduling materials are available on the CJHS Counseling website.
  • You will be able to start selecting your classes in StudentVue today.
