What is AP Calculus AB?

Curriculum

The course covers concepts and skills in the following areas:

  • Limits
  • Derivatives
  • Integrals and The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus

Students will learn how to:

  • Approach calculus concepts and problems when they are represented graphically, numerically, analytically, and verbally, and make connections amongst these representations
  • Learn how to use technology to help solve problems, experiment, interpret results, and support conclusions

    • Simplifying rational expressions
    • Multiplying and dividing rational expressions
    • Adding and subtracting rational expressions
    • Rationalize square root expressions in the denominator or numerator by multiplying with the conjugate  . Example : Rationalize the numerator: (sqrt(x+3) - 1)/(x-2)
    • Simplifying fractional expressions with fractional exponents Ex:  f(x)=43x-2/3-43x1/3 students should be able to simplify to f(x)=4(1-x)3x2/3

    • Use exponent rules to simplify expressions with integer exponents and rational exponents.
    • Use Logarithmic rules to simplify/combine/expand logarithmic expressions.
