Founded in spring 2020, the Reagent Collaboration Network (Reclone) is an international community of researchers whose original goal was to address the reagent supply chain issue faced by scientists across the world – particularly those in Africa, Latin America, and Asia – which have been exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since Reclone’s reboot in winter 2022, we are now seeking to more broadly address equitable access to biotechnological resources and knowledge sharing through fair, open, and collaborative practices.

who are seeking to support each other in accessing reagents for research and diagnostics through open knowledge sharing and by nurturing collaborative partnerships.

We envision a world where all scientists have equitable access to reagents to accelerate research, foster innovation & support education for the bioeconomy

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/bioeconomy-strategy-2018-to-2030/growing-the-bioeconomy-a-national-bioeconomy-strategy-to-2030

A strong and vibrant bioeconomy harnesses the power of bioscience and biotechnology, transforming the way we address challenges in food, chemicals, materials, energy and fuel production, health and the environment.

Mission 1

Develop Regional Reagent Hubs to easily share DNA parts and collections for local researchers to make affordable, reliable reagents and other enabling biotechnologies for research.

Mission 3

Create a Repository of Open Access Education and Training Resources sharing experimental protocols, open software, and hardware designs – provided by community members, for community members.

Mission 2

Build a Global and Distributed Community of Researchers who wish to work in an open and collaborative manner to help shape how biotechnology can be used for the sustainable future of our people and planet.

Regional Reagent Distribution Hubs

In 2023 Q3, we began a pilot programme to establish three Regional Reagent Hubs in Argentina, Ghana, and the Philippines to help with distributing the OpenMTA DNA Collections. This will also include gathering on-the-ground insights to develop policy for local protein manufacturing, as well as identifying more parts to expand the DNA Collections.

Monthly Community Meetings

Join us every Second Wednesday of the Month at 13:00 UTC on Zoom to hear from up-and-coming researchers talking about their projects and/or how they are using the Open DNA Collections for advancing their own local production research.

Annual Reclone Symposia

Save the date: on Wed 11 October 2023, we’ll be holding our 6th Reclone Symposium on Building Scientific Communities through Open Education, Communication, and Collaboration. Come along to meet fellow Reclone members and take part in driving forward our community efforts.

Upcoming Reclone Activities

Be among the first to hear of upcoming activities by joining our Reclone Community Forum at https://forum.reclone.org/

Reclone Website & Forum Updates

In the next couple months, we’ll be improving the Reclone Website and Forum functionality so that you can request our DNA Collections, troubleshoot issues with using the parts, tell us how we can do more, and get announcements of upcoming Reclone activities.
