Community Center
A gathering place

1965. A bond issue finally passed in the City (after many previous attempts) for recreation centers.
$150,000 was devoted to the creation of a Recreation Center in the park.
1967. The Recreation Center is dedicated.
The Recreation Center was host to a variety of classes and special events. An open stage at the rear allowed for outdoor music concerts and other performances.
With budget crunches in the city and with the existence of the Senior Center on Alameda, this Recreation Center, now known as the Community Center, needed a new life. In 1992, the center was leased to the nonprofit Self Help for the Elderly which provides activities and meals for older adults.
