Considerations for Selecting an Interim Superintendent

1

Someone who:

  • Has experience as a superintendent or executive level administrator ~~~ someone who is familiar with the intricacies of leading a school district
  • Is available to commit for a flexible extended period of time ~~~ typically anywhere from one month to a year
  • Is passionate about serving and working with CPS ~~~ Is familiar with and/or knows the culture of the region, particularly Cambridge .
  • Understands that the position is temporary and is not interested in becoming the permanent superintendent.
  • Brings a desire to listen, observe, engage, make decisions where/when necessary, lead, and perhaps most importantly help ensure a smooth transition to the next permanent superintendent.

Narrowing the Focus

2

In every school district:

  • Certain duties are performed solely by the Superintendent
  • Other duties are completed under the direction & supervision of the Superintendent

When thinking about the work that will need to continue, launch, or be planned; it will be important for the Committee to consider the duration of the Interim appointment & the time of year of the Interim appointment.

Both factors will in part dictate the required duties of the person appointed.
