What are Destiny Discover Collections?

What exactly is Collections and where do I find them? Your school library must have Follett’s Destiny as your online database--fortunately, it is used by many school district for library resources. Destiny Discover is the patron interface that allows patrons to see what resources the library has to offer. At the bottom of the home page you will see an often neglected section called “Collections.” First, let’s explore how librarians can create Collections to curate a wide variety of resources for their patrons, both from the library collection (books and ebooks), as well as web pages and Open Educational Resources.

How to make a book collection for students to check out on a certain topic.

Let’s begin by making a book collection for students to check out on a certain topic. Click on the “Private” tab and you will see the option to create a collection. Once you click on the + sign, you’ll need to Title your collection, and determine who you want to see the collection. Collections that include books and ebooks from your school collection should be available only to your school or district site, so students can immediately check out books from that collection. Once you’ve created your collection, go back to your Destiny Discover homepage (using the hamburger icon in the top left corner) to find books from your database that support that topic. Click on “Add to Collection”in the bottom right corner of the book you want to include and select which collection to which you’d like to add the book. When students are signed in to Destiny and see the private school collection, they can simply click on the book they want to read and place a hold on it.

Create Your Profile!

Want other curators to get a feel for who you are? You can change your profile options to control what information others see about you, including your profile image, email address, preferred grade levels and subjects.

Step 1. In the top-right corner of the Collections header, select > My Profile.

Step 2. Next to your name, click . The "About You" page appears.

Step 3.. To add a profile image, do one of the following: l Click Upload, or drag and drop an image from your computer. This option may not be available, depending on your role. l Click Emojis, and select the desired option. l Click People, and select the desired option. To add glasses, select the With glasses checkbox. l Click Stickers, and select the desired option.

Step 4. When you are done, click Save. Your photo, emoji, person or sticker appears in the Destiny Discover header and in every collection you create.

Step 5. Next to Interests, click .

Step 6. Select the grades and subjects you are interested in, and then click Save.

Students & Teachers can also search, create and share Collections as well!

Librarians aren’t the only ones who can create and find Collections--all patrons, both students and teachers, have access to collections and are able to search, create, and share their own private collections, make them public, or make a copy of a public collection to use in their private collection. This allows students to become their own curators of content, and introduces them to other curators as well. Unfortunately, at this time Destiny does not allow patrons to contribute to the same collection collaboratively, but the share feature allows them to make copies of someone else’s collection and modify by adding or deleting content.

For patrons to create a private collection, they must login with their credentials to destiny discover, and either click on collections that appears when they click on the hamburger icon on the right side of home page OR simply type in a topic in the search bar at the top of the page.

In the filter menu, do either or both of the following:
