Previous findings

  • Epidemiology: Significant statistic correlation between COVID-19 mortality and Y-R1b frequency in Western Europe (May- Sept. 2020) (ref).
  • Genetics: European GWAS study indicates susceptibility for severe COVID-19 for Y-R1b subgroups and potential protective effect of Y-R1a (Eastern Europe) during the first wave of the pandemic (ref).

Study proposal

  • Aim: Investigate whether different Y-chromosomal haplogroups increase or decrease their association with severe COVID-19 throughout the course of the pandemic.
  • Request: Individual cohorts would be asked to provide Y chromosomal genotypes (approximately 25 SNPs) together with the time of COVID-19 infection with information of severity and geographical region.
