Parents/Guardians I want to first welcome you all to our Pre-K 1 Class! For those that do not know me, I am Mrs. Rodriguez and I have been an early childhood educator for the past 23 years, my educational background stems from bachelors and master degrees in both early childhood education, sociology and literacy for children from birth to 2nd grade. For the past 13 years I have been part of the OLQM family, and I look forward to getting to know all our new families here today and I congratulate you for joining our OLQM school community.

I understand that are school year will still be different from past years as we are still dealing with Covid. It is important we teach the children the importance of washing hands and keeping our mask on. We will also do our best to keep this school year as exciting and fun as possible for the children and make sure they learn everything they need to have continued success in the school years to come. Mrs. Gomez, will be my assistant as you know just as last year, we will have a combined class of 3 and 4 yr. old's. Mrs. Gomez has 12yrs of experience of working with me and has a bachelors degree in sociology and is working towards her masters in Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Rosa will be our part-time Class Aide in the morning and during lunch time. Mrs. Rosas has also worked with me for many years and has been a Teacher Aide for the past 20 yrs. here at OLQM. She is the most loving and nurturing person you will ever come across and all the children love her. The three of us along with the staff at OLQM will work hard to nurture and keep your child safe.

Parent/Teacher Relationship

I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success. Throughout the year I will communicate with you through our class blog at olqmnyc.blogspot.com/ notes, emails and parent-teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact me if at any time you have questions or concerns by calling the school office to make a Zoom appointment or send a note with your child or you can always email me at msrodriguez@olqmnyc.org . It is important we keep our lines of communication open and work together to meet the needs of your child.

Our classroom rules include:

Be kind to others.

Raise your hand to speak.

Listen carefully to the teacher and while others are speaking.

Use inside voices.

Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.

(Covid Rule) I will keep my mask on.

Always do your best work!

Behavior Incentive (Have You Filled Your Bucket Today?)

*Throughout the day whenever a student shows initiative towards following class rules they will be allowed to add Pom-poms to their buckets. At the end of the week if their buckets are filled, they will receive a small price such as stickers or choose from the prize bag.

If a child is continuously having difficulty following classroom rules a letter will be sent home or I will call the parents to communicate areas which need improvement. We will meet with Mr. Woods to discuss options to get the child back on track with behavior.

Disruptive behaviors that keep others from learning or dangerous behaviors (biting, throwing objects, etc…) require removal of a student from the classroom and will be reported immediately to our Principal, Mr. Woods.

It’s up to you what you want to bring for the celebration some parents provide lunch, juice, goody bags and cupcakes. Other parents prefer they have the school lunch, and they provide cupcakes, juice or goody bags. It’s up to you.
