GUIDING PRINCIPLES: LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

5

Create learning environments through our ECH-21 programs that drive change within our district through programming and experiences that help learners collaborate and communicate as they grow to be kind, resilient, responsible, creative and self-aware in preparation for being college, career, and life ready. Coherence Plan | Profile of a Graduate

6 of 46

QUESTIONS TO FRAME OUR LEARNING

Is the existing capacity adequate to service the needs of the district today and in the future? If not, what are the additional space needs required? (Learning Environments)

6

All evaluations assume that the District will continue to place students based on available space, does not change the curriculum, will continue to use the rooms as identified, and that the population changes at the expected rate.

Create learning environments that foster programming experiences for learners to explore trades for career readiness and support our expanding Education for Employment opportunities ensuring accessibility for all learners throughout their high school career.

Coherence Plan | Profile of a Graduate

7 of 46

QUESTIONS TO FRAME OUR LEARNING

What facilities will be required to accommodate visionary programs? (Learning Environments)

7

Create activities and athletics spaces that foster programming experiences for all learners/athletes to engage in practice and competition, offer the ability to support community demand for feeder programs and meet WIAA requirements to host multi-team and playoff events.

Coherence Plan | Profile of a Graduate

All evaluations assume that the District will continue to place students based on available space, does not change the curriculum, will continue to use the rooms as identified, and that the population changes at the expected rate.

8 of 46

QUESTIONS TO FRAME OUR LEARNING

How do we want to approach the ~$96 million of district-wide maintenance over the next 10 years? (Infrastructure)

8

Provide secure entrances and ADA compliance throughout our schools to ensure equity in accessibility to serve our entire community.

Foster pride in our schools by bringing HVAC, roofing, windows, doors, and other infrastructure up to age standards with the goal of energy efficiency and longevity ensuring we are stewards of district resources.

Coherence Plan | Profile of a Graduate

All evaluations assume that the District will continue to place students based on available space, does not change the curriculum, will continue to use the rooms as identified, and that the population changes at the expected rate.

EDUCATIONAL VISIONING: HISTORY

10

History of Franklin High School

  • Franklin High School rapidly grew in size from 1961 to the mid 1970s
  • Renovations have been done in areas of the building over the years, but a majority of the school remains outdated.
  • The 2013 additions and renovations did much to modernize portions of the building with the main focus on performing and physical arts, science, and secure entry/office spaces.

  • Is this the right solution?
    • 2023 efforts have reviewed the school in a holistic approach.

Current enrollment of 1,555 includes all on-campus students.

CURRENT ENROLLMENT: 1,555 PROJECTED ENROLLMENT: ~1,547 AT YEAR 2030 / ~1,682 AT YEAR 2040

EDUCATIONAL SUITABILITY: STUDENT COMMONS / CAFETERIA

34

In general, the student commons and cafeteria are appropriately sized, but cannot be used as multi-purpose spaces due to their locations in the building.

  • The location of the cafeteria in the back of the school does not allow for easy student access during the day or secure community access after school.

  • Student commons is not directly connected to useable spaces, so it acts more as a large hallway.
