Types of Growth Targets

  • Basic Growth Targets
  • Tiered Growth Targets
  • Individualized Growth Targets

Basic Growth Targets

Examples:

  • All students in an instructional group, class or course will improve by one proficiency level.
    • Pretest to posttest would grow from beginning(1) to progressing(2).
    • Students with proficient(3) or exceptional(4) will maintain their performance level.
  • All students will grow by points
    • Pretest to posttest would grow by 10 points.

Tiered Growth Targets

Focuses on grouping students based on ability

  • Give students pre-assessment
  • Review data
  • Group students based on pre-assessment scores
  • Set post growth target for students
  • Four Tier/Group Maximum

Example:

Individualized Growth Targets

Useful when working with unique learners

  • Students with:
    • IEPs, 504s, and/or challenging behaviors increase by a percentage

LBS1s tend to prefer this approach

    • Works well with small populations
    • Tends to be useful with focused interventions
