ES Mission Statement

KISJ Elementary School provides an emotionally safe and engaging environment while delivering a high quality American standards based curriculum.

We aim to develop ‘DRAGON’ characteristics in students as they learn to be critical thinkers, life-long learners, and compassionate community members.

Completed ES building Changes

• All the stairs in the ES have been covered in rubber for safety

• Added a new bike parking lot

• ES/MS Pool changing rooms have been renovated and hair dryers added.

• Outdoor wood decks have been constructed on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the ES

• JK/K flooring has been changed to linoleum

• Replaced all the outside wood benches at KISJ

• Changed the fire drill lineup location to improve student safety

• We plan to replace all outer walls of the elementary school building with aluminum or stone

Change in how we support all students in language acquisition

• All students are language learners

​

• KISJ will have five Literacy Specialist in the ES

​

• Each grade level will have one Literacy Specialist that will work with students in the classroom during Reading and Writing classes.

​

• There will be two teachers in the room to help our students with language acquisition

Reimagine activity classes and team sports

• Activity classes will be renamed to Elective classes and will be graded based on the DRAGONS

​

• Elective classes will be offered twice a week on Tuesday & Thursday from 3:00 to 4:00

​

• We will have a full time Electives Coordinator

​

• Team sports will be after school

​

• We will offer athletic skills classes during the Elective classes (swimming, soccer skills, etc.)

Why do we want our students be design thinkers?

• Empowering students to transfer what they learn in the classroom to the real world

• Promote self driven individualized creation

• Creative problem solving integrated into the curriculum

• Designing thinking is connected to what students are learning in the homeroom

What will the Design Thinking class look like in the ES?

• Student will have a Design Thinking specialist class each week

​

• Students are given a prompt: “Design and create a house that can withstand a natural disaster (flood, hurricane, earthquake).”

• Then students go through the design cycle
