Building Magnet Stations

2 of 21

  • Please form groups of three

Have each person assume one of the following roles....

  • String cutter
  • Ruler cutter
  • Data person/questions

3 of 21

After opening the box, complete the following tasks...

  • Ruler cutter; cut through the “0” marks on both ends of your ruler. The trimmed rulers should end exactly at the “0” line on both ends.
  • String cutter; cut the string into three equal pieces so each group has one piece.

4 of 21

  • CAREFULLY stick the ruler to the top of the board. Make sure that the ZERO on the magnet side is flush with the surface of the magnet.

5 of 21

  • Insert the eyehook just a few turns
  • Tie a paperclip to the string
  • Tie the string to the eyehook so that there is only a little slack when the clip is touching the magnet. (You should be able to make the floating clip fall by screwing in the eyehook)
  • CAREFULLY stick the ruler to the top of the board. Make sure that the ZERO on the magnet side is flush with the surface of the magnet.
