Kupe and his family lowered their lines into the ocean.

They set their lines out everyday but their bait was always eaten.

Kupe went to visit Muturangi, who owned a pet wheke (octopus).

Muturangi wouldn’t tell his pet off so Kupe said he was going to destroy it.

The wheke heard this and set off.

Kupe and his family went after the wheke leaving Hawaiiki.

Aotearoa was discovered. They travelled the East Coast chasing the wheke.

Kupe caught up with the wheke at Raukawa where one of its arms were chopped off.

The waka was being attacked by the wheke.

The wheke was destroyed by Kupe.

The family ended up sailing up and down Aotearoa.

Aotearoa became their new home.
