Overview — Welcome students to their first activity on Nature Prescriptions. Nature Prescriptions is all about spending optimal time in nature to benefit your happiness and wellbeing! Explain that you are going to begin by discovering what (and where!) nature is and start to reflect on your favorite places and connection with nature. This is the first activity and there are four more activities to come!

Activity 1 Skill Goal — Students will be able to 1) identify what spending time in nature looks like and doesn’t look like and 2) identify and reflect on a favorite place in nature.

Class Activity – Students identify if the image represents an example of spending time in nature. The goal is to get students to start thinking about all the different ways nature shows up in everyday life – and identify times when they are NOT in nature, so they can more intentionally make time for nature!

Step 1: Ask the class as a whole (or student individually): Is this place an example of spending time in nature?

If using a SmartBoard, have students come up and move their answer into the box on whether the

image is an example of spending time in nature or not.

Students can also come up and circle/star the answer.

Step 2: Ask individuals in the class (by show of hands or another way): Why do you think this is or is not an example of nature?

Step 3: Have a conversation around how this may or may not be an example.
