Learning Targets:
I can apply blogging feedback to my next blog post.
I can identify and describe what makes me happy!
What makes an effective blog...
Giving specific examples to support your claims.
"The thing about Pandora is that it only lets you hear 5 songs before it plays a commercial which advertises things like restaurants, card games and more. You may think there's nothing harmful about this but without even noticing it you catch yourself sort of forced to listen to someone trying to sell you something."
What makes an effective blog...
Moments when your voice shines through your writing.
"After reflecting on what we watched yesterday I learned that Dove was trying to do something to help young girls but GreenPeace said, "lol like girls self esteem is our biggest problem how about that palm oil dove? where'd you get that?" I remember thinking that it was really clever and sassy of GreenPeace to create a commercial that mimicked Doves already good one."
What makes an effective blog...
Offering a new insight or unique point of view to add to the conversation.
Most of viewers are usually consumers. As customers, we don't really think about where our products come from and how they are obtained. We usually buy them at a local store on the shelf and read some of the texts on it. But as consumers, we don't really think of how the products we bought came to be.
Drawing connections between texts
(in this case, connections between the 3 commercials).
On the second video, the lyrics made the commercial happy because it said "here it comes," assuming it is good. The music exaggerated after the intro of the girl smiling. In the beginning, the little girl was smiling because she was in a wealthy place...
The music on the third video was the same as the second video, but the only difference is the land is being destroyed. The lyrics this time said the opposite. For example, "There they gone." Again, the video starts with a little girl but she's living in poverty and her feelings are depressed.

What makes an effective blog...
Demonstrating how the text's construction affects its meaning (in this case, the text=the commercial)
"After watching and discussing commercials in class I have really noticed how much companies work to influence the public into thinking a certain way towards something. From the music used to the images shown during the advertisement, everything is carefully chosen to make the ad the most effective. In the second Dove commercial that we watched the way that the girl was looking at the camera was in the beginning to show innocence."
What makes an effective blog...
"In the second commercial about outside beauty, I noticed that there was not one boy in the commercial that I saw. I thought about this and thought it was interesting because when you actually think about the issues on TV and what you see in movies about self esteem, it is always about girls. Another thing that made me think was the slogan at the end of the commercial: "talk to your daughters before the beauty industry does". I thought this was interesting because its saying that your daughter WILL be influenced by the beauty industry no matter what."
Don't summarize; analyze and evaluate.
What makes an effective blog...
Proper punctuation, capitalization, and grammar AND organization.
Areas for improvement:
-capitalize "I", proper nouns, and the beginnings of sentences.
-start with a claim or big idea...then, give details and examples to support that claim.
-if there are two parts to a prompt, answer each question in a separate paragraph.
