Students/ Student Progress/ Student/ Advanced Placement/NCCC BRIDGE Course Prerequisites 7226

Students entering any Advanced Placement (AP) or NCCC BRIDGE Course must meet the following prerequisites:

  • Attendance: Students may not exceed an average of 7 absences per year over their previous high school years. This includes BOTH excused and unexcused absences. Known Educational Programs (KEP) will not be considered in this average. In the event of a prolonged absence due to an extenuating medically documented circumstance, an appeal requesting an exemption may be made by the student to the Principal.

  • Grade Average: Students must have an 85 minimum average grade in all related, preceding high school classes and Regents Exams for NCCC BRIDGE courses and a 90 minimum average in all related, preceding high school classes and Regents Exams for AP Courses. Example: For admittance into AP Biology, students must have an 90 average in the following: Earth Science, Earth Science Regents Exam, Living Environment, Living Environment Regents Exam, Chemistry, Chemistry Regents Exam.

Depending on the pathway a student chooses, the Regents diploma with advanced designation assessment requirements may be met in a multiple ways. Students seeking the Regents diploma with advanced designation may choose from the following assessment options:

Traditional Combination

ELA, Global History and Geography, US History and Government, 3 mathematics, 2 science, (1 must be life science and 1 must be physical science) = 8 Assessments. In addition the student must choose either 2 additional credits in LOTE and the locally developed Checkpoint B LOTE Exam OR a 5 unit sequence in the Arts or CTE.

Pathway Combination (other than STEM)

ELA, 1 social studies, 3 Math, 2 Science (1 must be life science and 1 must be physical science), and either , 1 Pathway (other than Science or math) or complete the requirements for the CDOS Credential = 8 Assessments or 7+CDOS. In addition the student must choose either 2 additional credits in LOTE and the locally developed Checkpoint B LOTE Exam OR a 5 unit sequence in the Arts or CTE

STEM (Mathematics) Pathway Combination:

ELA, 1 social studies, 4 math, 2 Science (1 must be life science and 1 must be physical science) = 8 Assessments. In addition the student must choose either 2 additional credits in LOTE and the locally developed Checkpoint B LOTE Exam or a 5 unit sequence in the Arts or CTE

  STEM (Science) Pathway Combination:

ELA, 1 social studies, 3 math, 3 science (1 must be life science and 1 must be physical science) = 8 Assessments In addition the student must choose either 2 additional credits in LOTE and the locally developed Checkpoint B LOTE Exam OR a 5 unit sequence in the Arts or CTE

OTHER CREDENTIALS

    • Available to students with a disability who are assessed using the NY State Alternate Assessment. Criteria include:
      • Attended school or received a substantially equivalent education elsewhere for at least 12 years (excluding kindergarten) or;

Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential

    • Available to all students except students assessed using the New York State Alternate Assessment seeking the Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential. Available as a stand alone credential or added to a Local or Regents diploma.

      • Demonstrated achievement of CDOS Standards
      • 216 hours of CTE coursework and/or work-based learning experiences (of which at least 54 hours must be in work-based learning experiences)

    • Available to all students except students assessed using the New York State Alternate Assessment seeking the Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential. Available as a stand alone credential or added to a Local or Regents diploma.
    • Criteria - meeting the requirements for one of the nationally recognized work readiness credentials
      • National Work Readiness Credential;
      • SkillsUSA Work Force Ready Employability Assessment;
      • National Career Readiness Certificate WorkKeys - (ACT);
      • Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems Workforce Skills Certification System.
