DATA/ MAPS TESTING

Purpose

The Test

• Measures of Academic Progress
• Northwest Education Association
• Norms Tables based on 72,000-153,000 random samples from 1000 schools

Standard Deviation (SD)

• A measure of dispersion of scores around a mean.
• -the smaller the SD, the more compact the scores are around the mean
• -the spread of data can help determine students who are well below or far above the mean.

• i.e. BOY Grade 2 is 174.7. The SD is 15.52. So the range we expect is 159-190. Bell curve says 68% of all scores should fall within this range.

Growth NORMS

• Can help predict typical growth for a student
• How could we use these tables?
• WIN progressions, Advisory, Leadership notebooks/Goal Setting

• Compare my classes overall performance with national norms form NWEA
• Compare goal areas
• Begin planning for enrichment or instructional support
• Identify student goal area strengths and needs
• First report I might look at to get an overview of my class:
• Choose RIT to identify ranges of students (Advanced, High, On Track, Low, Intensive)

Class Breakdown

• Breaks kids into groups
• Students should move from one WIN to another WIN as they progress

• Should we use the Class Breakdown by Subject to create groups or Class Breakdown by Goal within those subject areas?
