Poster designs with less text, plain language writing, and more visual elements were preferred by conference attendees in our survey. These example formats and a brief description of their features were rated on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being difficult to gain information from and 5 being easy to gain information from. The average scores are shown, and were consistent across those with and without accessibility needs.

The newer and visual formats had feedback from respondents that they were easier to read: less text aided quick processing and chunking of information of relevance. Criticisms included potentially not including enough information and lack of signposting, or knowing where to look next.

Conversely this was a common note in support of the traditional format, for users familiar with this heritage design, that audiences know where to look.
