Activity 2

JD Salinger famously made sure that his book will not be made into a movie - at least for a long time.

Imagine that his estate has given you the opportunity to produce a movie based on his novel.

Who would you cast in the specific roles necessary for the film, and why? What scenes would you change, omit, or include?

Create a PowerPoint presentation of your ideas for the movie.

Many, many people have tried to “diagnose” Holden.

Pretend you are a psychiatrist, and diagnose Holden with the mental health disorder you think he has - or, explain why he does not have any issues with mental health.

Use specific examples from the book to explain your answer.

Write a letter or a medical report.

Activity 3

Activity 4

Write an argumentative text in which you explain why someone should read The Catcher in the Rye, and what they can learn about life and what it means to be an adolescent.

You may write an essay, create a YouTube video, write an editorial or opinion article, or any other argumentative text.

You should include specific evidence and examples from the book.

What happens to Holden?

Create a narrative text of your choosing exploring the future of Holden.

You may consider the immediate future or you may think about the more distant future.

You should make reference to the events of the book.
