Problem and Target Users

2

The specific problem

  • Smallholder farmers in Assam often struggle to identify possible causes of crop problems and decide what action to take in right time.
  • The problem is not that advice doesn't exist. The problem is that the right advice doesn't reach the farmer in time

Who faces it

  • Small farmers of village areas in Assam
  • Farmers with limited internet connectivity and low digital literacy.- Farmers who lack easy access to reliable crop-disease guidance and fair market information.

How they cope now, and what is missing

  • - Ask neighbours or experienced farmers to identify crop problems.
  • - Seek advice from input shops or agricultural extension workers.
  • - Reliable support when mobile connectivity is weak.- Clear next steps that explain uncertainty instead of giving a potentially wrong diagnosis.- Easy access to an agriculture expert when a crop problem is unclear or high-risk.

Why it is worth solving

  • - Protect farmers' livelihoods: A wrong or delayed decision can waste money, damage crops, and threaten a farming season.
  • Make trusted advice accessible: Farmers in rural Assam need understandable guidance in their own language, even with weak internet connectivity

Ingenuity and Technical Decisions

5

What is original

  • Farmer-centric platform designed specifically for Assam and Northeast India.
  • Crop disease identification through symptom-based questions and image uploads.
  • Multilingual, offline-first approach for rural farmers.
  • Free access to agricultural guidance with future expert and cooperative integration.

How it is different

Existing platforms often provide fragmented agricultural information.

KhetDrishti combines crop diagnosis, preventive measures, and farming guidance in one platform.

Focuses on local crops, especially paddy, and region-specific agricultural problems.Provides personalized recommendations based on farmer inputs rather than generic advice.

Key technical decision

React + Vite: Lightweight, mobile-friendly farmer interface.FastAPI + PostgreSQL: Proposed scalable backend for managing farmer queries and agricultural data.Rule-Based Diagnosis:

Symptom-driven recommendations using structured agricultural knowledge.

Offline-First Architecture: Designed to support farmers with limited internet connectivity.

A challenge and how we solved it

  • Challenge: Accurate crop diagnosis is difficult because different diseases can show similar symptoms.
  • Solution: Developed a structured question-based workflow to narrow down possible diseases.
  • Challenge: Limited availability of reliable, region-specific agricultural information.
  • Solution: Organized paddy disease symptoms, causes, and preventive measures into a structured knowledge base.
