ICHOM uniquely positioned to enable HC system transformation

9

Objective, independent and patient centered non-profit organization

Network of 1000+ clinical thought leaders & patients engaged globally

Global reach, top annual conference and leading digital convener of pioneers and leaders in VBHC

Agile, having established 40 standard sets in just eight years with 32 in peer reviewed papers

The ICHOM Vision

Unlock the potential of value-based healthcare…

…by defining global Standard Sets of health-outcome measurements that involve provider observations as well as patient-reported outcomes

and providing solutions to remove technical and operational barriers around data access, thereby facilitating adoption and reporting and benchmarking of these measures worldwide

…and to align all stakeholders on contributing to HC system sustainability:

    • Patients: ability to make informed decisions
    • Providers/payers (including employers): intelligence on their performance versus others and drive improvement
    • Pharma and MedTech: prove net contribution to patient value and system productivity
    • Insurers: fewer, more effective, treatments per patient

In our [ICHOM] dialogue with providers globally we have two types of discussions

  • We have implemented 3-4 standard sets, but found it challenging to scale to the full list of ICHOM measurement sets
  • The implementation of the standard sets has been fairly manual – we have not been able to integrate in our EMRs and automate the data capture process
  • We are building a platform to implement the breast cancer standard sets with full Interoperability with our EMR. We will be able to use it for many ICHOM sets, but would love to have all sets configured the same way to speed things up,

1. Significant implementation effort

2. Strong demand for benchmarking

Power of Questionnaires

  • Same data, multiple viewers
  • Little effort for the implementer if a Questionnaire is prepared beforehand
  • Great way to distribute your forms/questionnaires/surveys in a digital manner

Form data extraction

  • Extract completed Questionnaires into resource instances
  • Convert resource instances to relational views using SQL on FHIR tooling
  • Benchmark data across many institutions using off the shelf analytics software!

Call to action

  • Better support for internalization in Questionnaire tooling
  • More promotion of existing tooling, Questionnaires, and SDC!
