What is a School - Parent Compact?

The School-Parent Compact is an agreement that parents, students and teachers develop together. It explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all our students reach or exceed grade-level goals.

• Focus on student learning skills
• Describe how teachers will help students develop those skills using high-quality curriculum and instruction
• Share strategies parents can use at home
• Explain how teachers and parents will communicate about student progress
• Describe opportunities for parents to volunteer and participate at the school

Jointly Developed

The parents, students and staff of Wayside Elementary meet yearly to discuss student learning needs based on current grade level data. Teachers suggest home learning strategies, parents add ideas to make them more specific, and students identify ways to support their learning goals.

Communication about Student Learning

Wayside Elementary is committed to frequent two-way communication with families about children’s learning. Some of the ways parents and teachers communicate all year are:

Wayside Elementary School Goals

Goal 1 Academic Achievement through growth in ELA, Math and English Language Proficiency.

Goal 2 SEL focused on decreasing the percentage of chronically absent students and lowering the suspension rate.

Goal 3 Increase Family & Community Engagement opportunities by providing a wide variety of Parent activities at Wayside.

• Read to my child or encourage my child to read 20 minutes a day
• Respect the staff, students, and families of different cultural backgrounds

Students

Wayside School students pledge to;

• Ask for help when needed
• Know and follow school and class rules
• Communicate regularly with my parents and teachers about school experiences so they can help me be successful in school
• Be responsible for delivering notices to my parents and encourage my parents to become involved in school activities
• Study and read books every day for 20 minutes or more
• Complete assignments and homework
• Work to resolve conflicts in positive, non-violent ways
• Respect the school, staff, classmates and families of different cultural backgrounds
