Center for Advancing Pharmacy Practice and Research Excellence (CAPPRE)

Vision

  • Create a sustainable future where pharmacist practice is seamlessly integrated into diverse healthcare settings, resulting in improved patient care, enhanced medication-related health outcomes, and a transformed healthcare landscape. 

Mission

  • Develop collaborations, resources, policies, and funding mechanisms to sustainably implement and study pharmacist practice across diverse healthcare settings, driving innovation and optimizing patient outcomes.

Pharmacy Practice Sections

The center is forming a number of practice setting specific sections, each led by a dedicated ISU College of Pharmacy Faculty or Staff Member. �

The sections will host regular shared learning collaboratives and will function as innovation and resource hubs for interested and partnering faculty and practicing pharmacists.

Sections will develop, maintain and store a practice area specific resource repository resources and help connect members to subject matter experts and other Center Sections/Groups as Needed

Community Pharmacy

Pharmacy practitioners in retail drug outlets and providing care to outpatients regardless of if the pharmacy is free standing or attached to a clinic or health system.

Primary Care Pharmacy

Pharmacy practitioners functioning as primary care providers or providing primary care services at or on behalf of a primary care practice. May include specialty pharmacists providing services at the direction of or in coordination with primary care.

Institutional Pharmacy

Pharmacy practitioners practicing in institutional drug outlets or for practices that provide medical and/or pharmacy services to patients in an inpatient status.

Project Details

  • We will be engaging in a series of activities to build patient-centered CER capacity in pharmacy professionals and researchers in Alaska and Idaho.
    • Gap Analysis and Needs Assessment Survey
    • Creation of a Syllabi and Training Curriculum
    • Establish a project collaborative of pharmacy professionals
    • Deliver training over 18 monthly collaborative sessions between May 2025 and November 2026
    • Develop a CER Toolkit
    • Create and disseminate a community research plan

Participation Opportunity

  • We are looking for community based pharmacy professionals in Idaho and Alaska who are willing to commit to participate in the 18 collaborative sessions
  • Participants will need to sign a formal ‘Participation Agreement’ committing to attending the live virtual training collaborative or watching the recordings of any missed sessions prior to the next session.
  • Participants will receive a $100 stipend for each attended/watched session, with a maximum stipend of $1800 per individual participant.

Participation Opportunity

  • There are 60 seats in the learning collaborative
  • We are aiming to have all seats filled (under signed agreement) by 2/28/2025
  • More information will be sent in the CAPPRE newsletters and by the state pharmacy associations in the coming days and weeks.
  • If you are interested in participating, please email zacharyrosko@isu.edu and include the names of the pharmacy staff that you would want to participate and the name and contact information to direct contracting information to.
  • Depending upon interest, we may limit the number of participants at an individual organization, but may be able to provide access to training materials from the toolkit upon completion of the project for additional staff.

Announcements

  • PCORI
    • CAPPRE has received a PCORI award for the project ‘Transforming Pharmacy Practice Advancements into Patient-Centered CER’

  • Blue Cross:
    • A separate contract amendment (Pharmacist in Clinical Setting Amendment…) needs to be completed for each TIN used by a pharmacist for billing purposes. For example, if a single pharmacist will be providing services at two distinct clinics, each with their own TIN, an amendment needs to be completed for each clinic/TIN. Two clinics using the same TIN will require just one amendment.
    • A credentialing application AND provider information sheet needs to be completed for each pharmacist.
