The Setup

How it works:

  • With your family/household choose and select as many games and activities as you would like to complete.
  • You can always modify an activity to fit the equipment that you have!
  • Keep track of how many events you complete and your scores by updating your score sheet.

Accomplishments:

  • 10 activities completed = Bronze Level
  • 15 activities completed = Silver Level
  • 18+ activities completed = Gold Level

1. Explosive Throw Challenge

Materials:

  • 1 Toilet Roll
  • 1 distance marker (water bottle, stick, cone)
  • 1 starting line marker
  • Measuring Tape (optional)

Directions:

  • The aim is to throw the object as far as you can over your head
  • Stand with your feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart
  • Face away from the direction you wish to throw in
  • Firmly hold the toilet roll/object in front of you with 2 hands
  • Bend your knees, push down through the ground to drive upwards
  • Bring toilet roll/object up and release at most extended position(above head)
  • Record your furthest throw, if you don’t have a measuring tape, rank your household from farthest (1st position) to closest.

2. Javelin Throw

Materials:

  • 1 javelin (pool noodle, stick, broom handle or any item you can safely throw)
  • 1 distance marker per competitor to mark each player’s throw

(cone, plastic cup, etc.)

  • 1 throwing marker
  • Measuring tape (optional)

Set Up

  • Find a large open space to play
  • Place the throwing marker on one side of the play area

Directions

  • Take 5-10 steps away from the marker
  • When ready, run towards the marker and throw your javelin as far as you can
  • After throwing, retrieve the javelin and place a distance marker at the spot where the javelin landed.
  • Measure and record your furthest throw.

3. Alternate Hand Wall Throw Challenge

Materials:

  • Tennis Ball or similar sized ball
  • Wall
  • Marker
  • Measuring Tape

Directions:

  • Measure a 2m distance from the wall and place down your marker
  • Stand behind your marker and throw the ball in an underarm action
  • Throw the ball against the wall using your right hand and catch with your left
  • Throw the ball against the wall using your left hand and catch with your right
  • Repeat as many times as you can in 30 seconds; each catch = 1 point
  • Record your highest score.

4. Keep It Up

Material ideas:

  • Something that will hold air e.g balloon or ziplock bag
  • Racquet and ball or frying pan and socks folded together
  • Football or scrunched up ball of paper

Directions:

  • Using arms, legs, head or piece of equipment keep your object up in the air
  • Count how many hits you can get in a row
  • If it hits the ground, your score goes back to zero!
  • You have 1 minute to complete as many consecutive hits as you can.

5. Combination Jumps

Materials:

  • 2 items to mark distance
  • Example - water bottle, can, sticks
  • Measuring tape (optional)

Directions:

  • Measure 8.51m (Greg Rutherford’s British Long Jump record)
  • If no measuring tape use 8 big steps and 1 small
  • Count how many jumps to cover 8.51m using some of the options below

Options:

  • 2 feet to 2 feet
  • Hop (right foot only or left foot only)
  • Hop from one foot and land on 2 feet
  • Jump from 2 feet to land on 1
  • Decide on your option and record your best score on your Google Form. Or try more than one.

6. Just Keep Moving

Materials:

  • Just yourself
  • Optional device to track movement
  • Optional App to track movement (click on logo for instructions)
  • Optional equipment to move on (e.g. bike)

Directions:

  • With adult supervision, move for at least 10 minutes in either your garden or your local area

7. Tower Construction Race

Directions:

  • The object of the game is to build the tallest tower using your materials
  • Place the materials together on the ground and ensure each player is the same distance away.
  • On the ‘GO’ command you run in and collect 1 piece of material
  • Run back to your marker and start your build.
  • Race continues until the end of 5 mins or until all of the materials have been used.
  • At the end of the time limit, measure to see who had the highest tower.

Materials:

  • Anything you can build a tower with
  • Example - plastic cups, old newspaper rolled together, lego (have a look in your recycle bin)
  • Measuring tape (optional)
  • Place markers for each player

8. The Toilet Roll Drop

Materials:

  • 1 Toilet Roll

Directions:

  • Stand with feet shoulder width apart
  • Hold the toilet roll in 2 hands
  • Extend your arms above your head
  • Drop the toilet roll
  • Move your hands forward and through your legs to catch the toilet roll
  • Catch = 20 points, two handed touch = 10 points, one handed touch = 5 points

9. Trick Shot!

Materials:

  • Anything you choose

Directions:

  • Try to come up with your very own trick shot
  • Be creative!
  • Watch the video for some ideas
  • Share your videos on Google Classroom
  • Create your own scoring system within your household

10. The Tunnel

Materials:

  • Chairs x 2
  • Broom or an object that can be placed across the chairs

Directions:

  • Place the chairs facing each other and place the broom on top
  • Stand at one side of the broom
  • Drop down onto your knees and crawl under the broom
  • You must stand up at the other side = 1 cycle
  • Repeat for 30 seconds aiming to get as many cycles as you can
  • If you touch the broom or object then you lose 1 point.
  • Place competitors in rank order of result ( e.g. 5 players: 1st - 5th)

11. T-shirt Challenge

Materials:

  • T-shirt
  • Wall
  • Stopwatch/Timer

Directions:

  • Place the t-shirt on the floor.
  • Move into a handstand position against the wall.
  • On the ‘GO’ command you must put the t-shirt on whilst staying in the handstand position.
  • Rank order participants from fastest to slowest in order to allocate points

12. Plank Get Ups

Materials:

  • Exercise mat (optional)
  • Timer

Directions:

  • Move into and hold a press up position (this can be a full press up or on your knees)
  • You then move into a plank position (forearms on the floor), one arm at a time.
  • Then return to press up position, one hand and a time = 1 repetition
  • How many repetitions can you do in 30 seconds
  • Place competitors in rank order

13. Throw & Catch Challenge

Directions:

  • You will need a partner for this game
  • Start by facing your partner and take 1 step back from each other
  • Toss the item to your partner
  • If they catch it, you will take another step back
  • Continue to do this until someone drops the item
  • Count how many total steps you can take away from each other!
  • Award points based on 1 point for each step away

Materials:

  • Anything you can toss and catch back and forth
  • Examples - water balloons, rolled up socks, bean bag, small ball, scrunched up piece of paper, empty water bottle.

14. Shoe Balance Challenge

Materials:

  • 1 Shoe
  • Mat, blanket, carpet, grass
  • Stopwatch/Timer

Directions:

  • Start by balancing a shoe on top of your foot
  • Roll all the way over without letting the shoe drop
  • Time how long you take to complete 1 rotation and place the competitors in rank order
  • As a family/household you can decide how many attempts you get

15. Electric Fence

Materials:

  • Something to hold to make your ‘electric fence’
  • E.g pool noodle, stick, broom handle

Directions:

  • This game requires 2 people
  • 1 person will hold the electric fence (item) while the other person will try to run and jump over it
  • Start with the electric fence down on the ground
  • After each successful jump raise the fence a little higher
  • Continue to do this until they touch the fence and then switch roles
  • Repeat this until you have record your highest clearance

16. Catch & Clap Challenge

Directions

How many times can you throw a ball up, clap once and catch it in 60 seconds?

  • You must throw your chosen object above your head
  • Whilst the object is in the air you must clap your hands together before catching it again
  • If you drop the object, carry on counting your score from where you left off
  • Repeat for 60 seconds
  • Rank participants in order from highest number of catches

Materials:

  • A ball or rolled up pair of socks or a toilet roll

17. Target Game

Set Up

  • Place your beach towel on the ground
  • Place your tea towel in the centre of the beach towel
  • Place your bucket/container in the centre of your tea towel.

Directions

  • On “go” you have 3 throws to score as many points as you can
  • If your object lands in the basket = 10 points
  • If your object lands on the tea towel = 8 points
  • If your object lands on the beach towel = 5 points
  • You may wish to play multiple rounds and keep track of your high score
  • Record your scores and place participants in rank order

Materials:

  • 1 Basket, bucket or container
  • 1 Tea towel
  • 1 Beach towel
  • Object to throw, rolled up socks, bean bag, ball, scrunched up paper

18. Bowling Challenge

Materials:

  • Something to make pins with
  • E.g water bottles or plastic cups
  • A ball that will roll

Directions:

  • Set your pins 10-15 steps away
  • See how many pins you can knock down in 5 rolls
  • Set the pins back up after each roll
  • Add your score up at the very end and place participants in rank order

19. Kick Challenge

Materials:

  • 3 different sized boxes (see video)
  • Socks

Directions:

  • Take 5 steps away from the target
  • Kick the socks aiming for the target
  • Count your score
  • Small box = 10 pts, med box = 5 pts, big box = 1 point
  • Record your score

20. Maradona 7/14 Challenge

Materials:

  • A football or similar type of ball

Directions:

  • The aim is to keep the ball up using;
  • Both feet, one after the other
  • Both thighs, one after the other
  • Both shoulders, one after the other and then a header (7 touches)
  • To challenge yourself further, you can repeat the sequence again to complete 14 touches, i.e after the header, control with foot etc.
  • 1 point is awarded for each touch in the correct sequence
