As we read the words of the Old and New Testaments, we can look for these messages in each book.

Preparing to Play

You will need: student workbooks, minute timer, scraps of paper, pencil.

The class divides into two teams or several opposing pairs. Sit opposite your opponent(s), with a set of questions in front of you - there are six sets to choose from. Keep the page hidden from your opponent(s). (And make sure they haven't got their student workbooks open!) Have the paper and pencil ready to record your scores.

How to Play

    • Set the minute timer for three minutes and begin asking your opponent(s) the list of ten questions.

    • Add a point to the opposing team's score for every question answered correctly. The answers are upside-down at the bottom of every set. For team games, one person could ask the questions and a team mate could hold their book upside-down to check the answers. Let your opponents know right away if their answer is correct or not. Your opponent(s) can keep trying to answer or they can skip to the next question.

If a player/team answers all ten questions correctly before the three minutes are up, they have the opportunity to answer the Bonus Brain Strain. If they answer that question correctly, their score is doubled for that round. If a player doesn't manage to answer all ten questions correctly, they can still attempt the Bonus Brain Strain, but it's only worth an extra two points.

    • Remember, when the three minutes are up, it's your opponent's turn. Play from one to four rounds, but don't forget to record your scores after each round and add up your totals at the end. The player (team) with the highest score is the winner.

    • If there are more than two people, you can play in teams of two or more: either answer the questions in turn, or shout out the answer if you know it! Vary the time allowed - two minutes, four minutes etc as suitable to the class.
