Programme Structure

The dissertation module is included in Stage 1 as an optional module.

Students who wish to complete the programme in one calendar year may under agreement with the Programme Chairperson take the Dissertation module over the summer months. Students must request this before Week 7 of Semester 1.

Progression to Dissertation

In order to progress to Research Project and Dissertation / Group Project, students must achieve at least a 50% average across all core modules (50 ECTS).

A student who does not achieve this threshold of 50% will exit from the MSc programme with an award of Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science.

Repeating an exam

If you have been unsuccessful in your exams, you can repeat in the Supplemental Exams in August:

  • The exams office will notify of the details of what you need to do.
  • All repeat modules are capped at 40%.

Repeating a module

If you want to repeat the module internally, you need to do the following:

  • Students must contact computerscience@tudublin.ie / Assistant Head of School/ Programme Chairperson to confirm they are permitted to repeat internally.
  • Complete the Internal Repeat Form in full and submit it to computerscience@tudublin.ie .
  • Your application form will be forwarded to Registrations.
  • You will then pay your fees online.

What is Generative AI (GenAI)?

  • GenAI is a type of Artificial Intelligence that is designed to create new things like writing text, drawing pictures, or making music, all by learning patterns from existing data.

  • Programs like ChatGPT, Claude, Midjourney, and Co-Pilot are examples of GenAI.

Different lecturers will wish you to use GenAI to different degrees.��So some might say “No GenAI allowed”, and others may say “GenAI allowed for everything”, and even others might say “GenAI for some things and not others”. ��Here’s a scale:

  • Please don’t use GenAI tools (like ChatGPT, DALL·E, GitHub Copilot, etc.) for assignments or coursework unless your lecturer gives clear permission.
