General 4th Grade Information

Attendance

4th graders are allowed to have a clean/healthy snack during the day. Please be mindful of allergies.

No homework for now. As we get closer to STAAR test time we may add some short at home practice.

4th graders will be going on 2 field trips this year. Stay tuned for more information.

Regular attendance is essential. If your child is ill, please report their absence on the Hilltop website. Attendance is recorded at 9:30 am each day.

4th Grade Newsletter

All 4th grade teachers send the newsletter home via Parent Square each Friday. If you have NOT gotten this newsletter yet, please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher.

Our newsletter includes:

  • Important curriculum information
  • Upcoming tests and projects
  • Important dates and reminders
  • Teacher contact information

4th Grade Folders

Red Folder

The red agenda folder goes back and forth between home and school each day.

Please look through the agenda folder from time to time. If you have any questions, please email your child’s homeroom teacher.

Please only remove work that is in the “Parent Pocket”

Green “Tuesday” Folder

Students will bring home their green folder each Tuesday with graded work and school notes.

Papers should be removed from this folder. The folder should be signed by a parent and returned the following day.

4th Grade Discipline Plan

  • Each teacher has a clipboard that moves with the class throughout the day.
  • Teachers use the clipboard to track and monitor discipline.
  • If needed, teachers will sign the discipline tracker which is located in the back of the red agenda folder.
  • If there is a major discipline issue or a recurring problem, teachers will reach out to parents to work together to help correct the issue.

Reminder: School Lunch Drop Off

Lunch visitors will begin on September 2nd

    • If you are visiting your student during lunch, you may eat with your student on the stage.
    • No other students may join you unless their parent is also visiting.
    • Please do not share food with any other students.

4th grade lunches should be dropped off no later than 10:15 am

WHAT IS IT?

The Lexile Framework is a scientific way of matching readers with text using the same scale. Recognized as the standard for matching readers with text, Lexile measures connect learners of all ages with resources at the right level of challenge. Lexile measures provide a clear way to monitor progress toward college and career readiness.

Your child will receive a Lexile measure by completing the district universal screener, MAP Growth for Reading.

The Lexile measure can be used to:

  • Find books that your child can independently read
  • Match your child’s Lexile measure with a book in the comprehension “sweet spot”
    • 100L below or 50L above your child’s reported Lexile measure
  • Make sure your child can comprehend reading material
  • Monitor reading growth over time and across texts
