Role of a Middle School Counselor

Middle School is a very different time for your student. They are often going through many changes that could impact their overall well-being. Here are some reasons that you would want your child to see a counselor at the middle school level:

    • Mediating Conflicts with peers (social media drama, reporting bullying, changing friend groups)
    • Supporting students with organization and time management
    • Supporting students with grief, substance abuse, self-harm, or mental health support
    • Developing coping skills and mindfulness strategies dealing with stress
    • Class Scheduling
    • 504 Plans
    • Or just checking in with students to say Hi!

Parents - Ways You Can Support Your Student

  • Parents, please encourage your child to check in with us, even just to say hello
    • Students can check in before and after school, & during lunch.
    • Or during class with a pass from their teacher
  • Reach out to us through email or by phone during the day
    • You can arrange for an appointment to meet with us
    • We can help connect you with your child’s teachers
    • Provide you with insight on counseling resources/programs
  • Parent resources
    • Log onto PMMS Counseling website to receive parent resources, especially if you see any changes or

concerns in your child’s behavior
