On January 9th, fans of the ‘Battle for Dream Island’ series by Jacknjellify, anticipated the initial release of the first episode of the fifth season, ‘Battle For Dream Island: The Power Of Two’ (TPOT).

TPOT’s Release caused such a sense of excitement among BFDI fans and OSC members alike that through casual conversation, sharing fan content, and other forms of media, ‘#tpot’ got 8th trending on twitter and nearly 30k tweets mentioning the, at the time, upcoming episode.

After nearly a year since the first announcement of TPOT, the first episode has finally been released, and fans are met with excitement and awe, though some fans are expectedly angry due to the episode coming out at a later than expected time, the high quality of the episode made up for the delays. The team who worked on TPOT did a great job and I think that many new fans of TPOT can agree.

How Do You Feel About TPOT?

I really liked it, it's a very good show! the animation was great, the challenge was well executed, and 2 is a great host. I like the overall vibe of it, and I also like how some of the characters that didn’t do much in bfb (Clock, Eggy, Basketball, Remote) got the spotlight. I do have some complaints. Pie used to be the carefree, chill character, but now she's just become a second Blackhole, being all about the ‘death thing’. This other thing is kinda personal because she's my fave, but Barfbag needed more screentime (and so did some other characters)

Overall the episode was stunning, I didn’t like winner at the start, but now that I saw what they’ve done i really like them, price tag on the other hand, is just naily but worse imo nonexisty got robbed the intro was AMAZING, i replayed it like several times already the writing and visuals are also good. one thing i didn’t like is that BOOM MIC DIDN’T DEBUT GRRRRRRRRR.

my final score is 9.8/10 DEFINITELY a step up from bfb

How Do You Feel About TPOT?

So overall, TPOT is really good. Pre-split BFB was good, but had some major, major flaws, and post-split just didn't really feel like BFDI. TPOT is the solution to all this. It solves most of the initial problems I had with BFB. First off, the quality. The quality of the animation, art, and voice acting was really, really good. Of course, that's expected with a 9-month wait, but this just exceeded my expectations. The animation is also consistent, unlike post-split BFB, which had a vast mix of artstyles. Next, the characters. A really big issue I had with BFB was that it gave too much screentime to certain characters, while others would just literally not be in the episode at all (Like Firey in BFB 13-14). A big number of the other contestants were also just one-note, and boring. TPOT fixes both of these. Every character seemingly gets equal screentime across the entire episodes. This allows for the characters to feel more unique, as well as make more noticeable. Two is also a really good host. I was worried he'd just be the "cocky" host at first, but he really had a bunch of personality in this episode. I do have some small issues with TPOT. With 42 people, and a very long wait in between episodes, I'm scared TPOT won't end for a long time, or just won't end in general. However, TPOT 1 looks very promising for the series as a whole. One last thing. I'm not speaking for everyone, but for me at least, I initially didn't think TPOT would wow me that much (I was sorta shifting out of the OSC). But this episode super exceeded my expectations, and now it's one of my favorite object shows!

While it does take a while for everything to be established and ready-to-go, TPOT is still a very enjoyable first entry with lots of creative energy and visual flair to boot. It is refreshing to see a show that feels like certain scenes and visuals felt intentional and part of one artist's vision. There was a lot of hype in anticipation for it, but I feel like most people’s expectations will be met. It's not a masterpiece, but it maintains its humor and charm that most are familiar with. Definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of pre-split BFB.

Earlier this month, ObjectCon ran for 3 days and It was a huge success, with over 30 hosts and $1090 raised for this year’s charity, The Phillipine Red Cross, so to get some insight on ObjectCon, I asked Legotd, an organizer and panelist of this years Con, on some insight on difficulties and some personal opinions.

How difficult was setting it up this year?

It was definitely easier because we knew what we had to do, what went wrong, what went good, and prepping. It wasn’t until about a week before the con that we knew we would comfortably be able to get everything done, we also had a lot more going on behind the scenes compared to last year’s ObjectCon, more hosts, more guests, more transitions, more stuff! A lot of prep and time went into making this year possible and I’m glad we were finally able to put it all out.

What was your favorite / least favorite part of it all?

Before the stream:

  • Least Favorite: Making sure all the hosts and guests knew what was going on, because we’d get no response from people. We would send out updates and important information to the hosts/guests, and would get a little upset when we didn’t hear back from a lot of people. We didn’t know if it was because of us giving too many or too little updates, there being nothing to give feedback on, a lot of variables, being ghosted for a major live event can be scary.
  • Favorite: Seeing how many people were willing to host. I was personally expecting a 70-80% acceptance rate, but we had an almost 95+% acceptance rate from everyone we asked.

During The stream:

  • Least Favorite: besides technical issues because those happen all the time, it was the wheel of mis-fortune. Us Organizers knew how it was supposed to go, but we obviously didn’t communicate that well with the hosts, resulting in a sloppy mess during the stream. Definitely won’t revisit that next year haha.
  • Favorite: Improv: funniest stuff ever, I was laughing the whole time...It was so funny.

If you could make anything different, what would it be?

WAYYY MORE TIME, I was like “we have time this year”, but we always wait until the last second, Like when we had our rehearsal we didn’t have much stuff to work with. I feel as if we had another week. I think things would have been even better, it was just a lot of praying that stuff would work and hoping people knew what to do. There was a bit of winging-it during the stream compared to other things we spent a lot more time getting ready.

Who are you planning to bring next year?

I think after this year, we definitely know that we have free range to ask whomever we want. And I’m excited for that because it allows us to group people together a lot better and stretch the host/guest count to be equal across all days.

Thank you again for the

interview and I hope for

the best for ya Lego!

Who We Are & Thank You For Reading!

Hello I’m Rex, I’m the writer and editor of this paper, I go find news about the osc and report about it for folks like you to see and I’d like to say thank you, I’ve always wanted to do something for the OSC. Since the very beginning people have been extremely friendly and have allowed me to have opportunities like this, so I wanted to give back. I made this paper as a way to make news in the OSC a little more accessible and fun and it couldn’t have been done without my friends support on the initial idea, folks who allowed me to interview them, and you folks reading this paper. So thank you and see you next issue!
