Solar Energy System Requirement Questions

  • How much ice has the smoothie event consumed in the past? Do we expect this to be similar to time we make smoothies this year?
  • How much ice has the camp consumed per day in the past?
  • How many blenders are we running at the same time?
  • Are there any other electrical systems we’d like to run off the solar setup?

Ice Making Considerations

  • Set up ice making infra first (Friday?) and start building up war chest of ice for the week?
  • Table-top ice makers require more attention - filling water / transferring ice
    • There are DC ice makers that would cut out inverter losses
    • We can build water reservoirs, but still will be constrained by small ice collection bins
    • Probably less able to handle extreme conditions
  • Commercial ice maker requires less attention - less frequent ice transfer
    • Also economies of scale in terms of efficiency
    • Higher up-front cost
    • Probably better in harsh conditions
  • Do we have any interest in lightweight plumbing?
    • Improved water filling station in central camp
    • Solar panel heat sink
    • Other applications?
