Alright, let's get those creative career gears turning! In the next five minutes, I want you to write down as many different jobs or professions as you can think of. Don't worry about being perfect or comprehensive; just jot down whatever comes to mind. Ready, set, go!

Student-Centered & Inquiry-Based Approach

Some students in the audience may have a slight understanding of what they want for themselves in the future (a certain college program, an apprenticeship, a specific career, etc.,) … but there are probably a lot of students who have no idea what type of career or education they want.

Don’t worry! myBlueprint will help you (the students) answer these 4 important questions to help plan for your career and future. Today’s workshop will focus on answering the second and third questions: “What are my opportunities?” and “What do I want to become?”

Pro Tip: The presenter may wish to share a personal story about their experience in high school/post-secondary while trying to discover their future career choice. Help build comfortability around not knowing the answers now.

Pause the presentation and provide a demo of the Student Account - Occupation Search feature to your team!

You have two options: �

Use the ‘Student View’ feature in your Counsellor/Teacher account to personally demonstrate the feature

If this is the approach you want to take, we suggest showing how you can…

a) Navigate to the occupation search feature through the work section of Education Planner

b) How to leverage filters to narrow down search results

b) Highlight the information available within each career profile (Overview, Outlook, and Requirements)

c) Showcase the “Do I Match” section and motivate students to complete compatibility surveys for occupations of interest

c) How to favourite an occupation and/or add one to a portfolio

d) How to compare occupations allowing for a side-by-side comparison >> (i.e., hover your cursor on an occupation box, click the 3 dots on the top right corner, click Compare; do this for another occupation)

Student Account Exploratory Time

Portfolio Creation & Occupation Search

Give your audience time to create a portfolio. We suggest at least 15 minutes.

Considerations:

Consider sending/sharing the Career Life Portfolio Checklist resource with the audience to help them pick what artifacts they can add to their portfolio �
You may want to assign them only the first 2 pages of the Career Life Portfolio Checklist (i.e., create portfolio, update avatar and banner, add WAI Surveys + reflect, add occupation + reflect, add post-secondary program + reflect)

- Note: maybe prompt the audience to skip the WAI assessment piece since they did during/after workshop #1? �

Consider sharing the Forwards and Backwards Planning Guide with the audience to show how to effectively plan for their future in Education Planner

a) Having students start their planning in the Occupation Search section is the Backwards Plan (i.e., Occupation Search > Required Education > Programs of interest > Required Courses > High School Plan)
