Transition into Senior Phase

The move into S3 therefore offers the opportunity to personalise the curriculum.

To maintain motivation and interest throughout the Broad General Education and

to introduce a greater level of personalization and choice,

your child is now being offered a choice of courses within the Curricular Areas in S3.

The choice process within these Curriculum Areas for S3 will take place in Term 3 of S2

For pupils who may benefit from extra support in S3, options are available for this

additional support to be incorporated into their timetable.

These will be discussed on an individual basis with targeted pupils and their parents.

During S3, opportunities will be available to learners to overtake CFE outcomes a

t level 4 and include aspects of National Qualifications courses where this is appropriate.

Discuss your choices with your Guidance Teacher.

When considering S3 subject choice the following do's and don'ts should be kept in mind.

DO talk to your subject teachers, Guidance teacher and parents about your possible choices.

DON'T choose a subject just because you like the teacher. You may not have him or her again.

DO use this website fully and read carefully. As you do so pay, particular attention to subjects

that interest you, taking care to consider those which you may not know from S1 and S2.

DO consider if you already have some idea about the kind of job you would like when

you leave school. Your Guidance teacher, or the Careers Adviser, will help.

DO use other sources of information, for example my world of work or skills development scotland

DO think carefully about your choices.

DON'T choose a subject just because a friend has. It's YOUR future you should think about.

Your friend may not even be in the same class as you, even if you do make the same subject choice.

DO choose subjects where you think you will do well. A genuine interest in a subject

and a willingness to work hard is very important.

DO remember that all subjects are open to both boys and girls; just as most careers

now offer equality of opportunity for both men and women. Engineering and industry

opens up many possibilities for women, whilst men have much to offer in creative or caring occupations.

Thursday 29/1/26 Pupil Deadline for submission of choices

Throughout the process, Guidance Teachers will confirm choices made with pupils, contacting parents where further conversations are required.
