New Course

I want to create a new course. What is the process?

  1. Email the Curriculum Specialist the following information:

  • Have you discussed this with VPAA?
  • Do we offer a similar course/program already?
  • Will the courses be credit or noncredit?
  • Who is your target audience?
  • How does this fit into your existing curriculum? Which discipline will the course(s) be assigned to?
  • What TOP code do you envision using?
  • What course acronym/titles do you envision (keep in mind character limits in Colleague)?
  • Which faculty are spearheading this?
  • Cc: Lori Suekawa if you have transferability questions

Curriculum Specialist will advise if ok to proceed and which course numbers are available.

  • Optional: Complete New Course Worksheet to assist designated personnel who input proposals in Curriculog.

  • Submit proposal in Curriculog. Proposal will be routed through the curriculum process. Updates will be available in Curriculog.

*Note: If the course will be part of a program(s), please ensure to submit a New or Modified Major/Certificate Proposal Form(s) so everything can be approved together.

  • New or Modified Major Proposal Form
  • New or Modified Certificate Proposal Form

Email completed form to Curriculum Specialist and Curriculum Chair. They will review at the next CCC Tech Review meeting and will provide you with an update thereafter.

  • Once CCC approves, the program will be submitted to the Board for approval. Faculty must then submit the appropriate Program Narrative (templates available in Teams) to the Curriculum Specialist for Chancellor submission and approval.

*Note: CTE programs have additional steps noted on the Program Narrative templates.

Course Acronym

I want to create or modify a course acronym (subject/prefix). What is the process?

Email Curriculum Specialist the following information:

  • Have you discussed this with VPAA?
  • What TOP code will be used?
  • What name are you considering?
  • Which department will this be housed under?
    • *See note below regarding new or revised department names.
  • Which faculty will be assigned?

Curriculum Specialist will advise if ok to proceed and when Curriculog has been updated.

*Note: Discipline names are determined by the Chancellor’s Office (see Minimum Qualifications), not the Curriculum Office. Adding or removing disciplines to a course is done by launching a Course Review Proposal in Curriculog.

Revisions to Courses/Programs

I want to make changes to a course or program. What is the process?

List the course/program in your Division Plan when prompted by the Curriculum Office prior to the semester.

The CCC Tech Review Committee will conduct either a standard or full review, depending on the change being requested.

The course/program will go through the curriculum process of approvals (Curriculog for courses, Proposal Form [Word doc] for programs).

*Note: If the revised course is part of a program(s), please ensure to submit a New or Modified Major/Certificate Proposal Form(s) so everything can be approved together.

What happens after my program (either new or revised) is approved by the CCC?

Once the CCC approves the program, the Curriculog Office submits the program for Board approval. Faculty must then submit the appropriate Program Narrative (templates available in Teams) to the Curriculum Specialist for Chancellor submission and approval.

*Note: CTE programs have additional steps noted on the Program Narrative templates.

Note: If the course is in Curriculog, launch a Course Reactivation Proposal. If it is an older course not in Curriculog, you will launch it as a new course but note the reactivation in your justification.

I want to modify the course delivery to include online/hybrid. What is the process?

List the course in your Division Plan when prompted by the Curriculum Office prior to the semester.

The DE addendum will go through the curriculum process of approvals.
