George Rodrigue is an American artist from Louisiana.
He had his own art gallery with landscape paintings.
He also had a dog named Tiffany that died.
10 years after her death, he decided to paint her.
He painted Tiffany as a BLUE DOG!
George’s gallery did not have many visitors, but he did not want to give up. George had to think of a way to get people to come into his gallery.
Then, in 1990, the NFL Super Bowl XXIV
was held in New Orleans, right near his gallery!!
The week before the event, he decided to make
MANY paintings with his dog. He filled his windows and most of the gallery walls with his dog paintings.
All his friends, business partners, and family thought he was going crazy! Absolutely NO ONE liked his paintings...
His closest friends did not like the paintings,
...but he kept on hanging them in his gallery.
That Super Bowl Weekend, he painted in his gallery
while people came in and out.
People would stop dead in their tracks to watch him.
The people would walk into his gallery to ask
“What’s with this blue dog?”
His art became so interesting during the
Super Bowl Weekend. News stations like, NBC News, People Magazine, Wall Street Journal, and countless others decided to photograph and film the
Rodrigue Gallery window.
Everyone wanted to understand
why he painted this blue dog!!
That year, George Rodrigue became famous...
...well, not quite as famous as his “BLUE DOG”.
