the fraudulent practice of sending emails or texts purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers.

Deactivation Scares - close the email and type in the link - it is not where it was really going to take you!
Look alike Websites - Equifax even sent out the fake site twice via twitter
Go Directly to jail - fake IRS threats, Fake FBI warnings, etc for those of us who feel guilty about something - delivers ransomware
Tech Support scams - Microsoft - look up the legitimate company’s number and call them or just google it.
Beware of installing software to fix an error - not all sites that show up in a search are good ones
Craiglist scams - most often when you are selling (Beware if they want to use a third party payment - also read Craiglist of ways to avoid scams)
Save a Friend - fake Facebook account and during a national or well known disaster
Wire Transfer Scam - Google & Facebook fell victim
Work Mules - targets teenagers
Phone Forwarding Scams - If someone calls and asks you to push buttons to assist you with something...DON’T
Smishing - Phishing via SMS - credit card compromised, follow this link
