  • Report what score you earned on the FAST your Raw/Scaled Score (HIGHLIGHTED in YELLOW) and your Lexile level (HIGHLIGHTED in PINK).
  • What is the college and career ready Lexile text range for 8th grade-(look at the chart for the beginning-end of year on slide 3)? If your Lexile level is not in that range, which approximate grade level of is associat8d with your Lexile level for the beginning of the year?

  • Look at your CAASPP data in PowerSchool. How did you score in ELA in 2023
  • Does your assessment data “agree”? Why or why not? Do YOU agree with the assessments?

This September, we have reviewed assessment data for our reading levels. For my FAST test, I received a score of 555, which is considered advanced, and a Lexile level of 1195. The on track range for 8th grade for Fast is 534-550, so I am well above that range. Texts for students striving to be college and career ready by senior year fall between 1010-1145. According to the FAST assessment, I am on track to be college and career-ready, based on my scores. I have an approximate Lexile grade level of an 11th grader. For my Lexia Powerup, my score is level 11 (Intermediate) for Word Study, level 6 (Advanced) for Grammar, and level 15 (Advanced) for Comprehension. For my CAASPP ELA score, I received a 4, Exceeds Standards. From this, I can tell that the data from Lexia Powerup “agrees” with the data from FAST testing. Both Lexia and FAST say I am advanced and will be ready to make choices as a senior in regards to my post-high school plans.

My goal in reading is to continue to improve so I will score at least a 558 in the winter FAST. I hope to be on level 13 for Word Study, 7 for Grammar, and 16 for Comprehension by the end of the semester. I plan on maintaining my 4 CAASPP score as well. Currently, to be on track with my reading, I am reading whenever I get the chance and am reading chaptered books that have new words and phrases in them. I can use Lexia to meet my goals by regularly completing units and spreading my work over all strands. One habit I can improve is reading more genres of books instead of mostly dramatic fiction. My reading level can impact my academic schedule by making it easier for me to understand complex words and phrases in texts. Two books that match my Lexile level and that seem interesting to me are The Door in the Hedge and The Blue Fairy Book. They look mysterious and captured my interest when I read samples. In conclusion, I am very happy with my score for FAST and Lexia Powerup completion and I am excited to read more books.
