Principal’s Guide

to monitoring equitable Gradebooks

2 of 15

We need to ensure that our teachers have set up PTPro Gradebooks that Organize by the CURRICULUM -- the course content (and outcomes) by the “major components of the course”

i.e. by units, by modules, by learning outcomes, by themes, by strands, etc. and NOT by type - assignment, quiz, test, lab, project, etc...

CHECK

Run a report of Gradebook Setups and Categories called “FINAL GRADE SETUP” found in Data and Reporting/ Custom Reports / Grading

Scan through to see if setup is CATEGORY WEIGHTING

(and not TOTAL POINTS)

Read the CATEGORIES to ensure they are curriculum-based and not task-based (no tests, quizzes, projects, labs, assignments etc...

We need to ensure that our teachers have PTPro Gradebooks that Use Learning-Focused Language -- It is important for students and families to see the connections between the student’s work and what they are learning (the curriculum). What did the student DO, SAY, or SHOW you about the curricular learning? The assignment title should make it clear:

the ‘do/say/show’ + the learning intention

CHECK

Select a student from each teacher and click on their Quick Lookup.

Click on the running grade for the current term (under T1, Q1, etc...) for the course you are checking.

Examine the assignment titles to see if it is learning-focused language (clear connection between do/say/show & learning intention)
