We Are Dilworth!

What are Dragon Houses?

The Dragon Houses were created in 2010 when Dilworth Elementary was re-established as a neighborhood school after having been a magnet school. There are four Dragon Houses: Denim Blue Drakes, Hunter Green Hydras, Lemon-Lime Lindorms, and Orange Ouroboros.

When new students and teachers come to Dilworth, they are inducted into a Dragon House by selecting a colored stone from a bag. Each person’s Dragon House is a surprise!

When do Dragon Houses meet?

Dragon Houses meet at the end of each quarter to celebrate Dragon Dollars earned, review Character Education Traits, and to show school spirit. Quarterly meetings take place in the gym.

Students and teachers are encouraged to wear their DH colors and show their spirit. Students sit in the designated area for their Dragon House and are encouraged to sit with their “Dragon Family.”

At the Latta Campus, 5th graders are chosen to be members of the Dragon Drumline which adds excitement to our meetings.

What is a Dragon Family?

Within each Dragon House, students will be organized into groups of 3 or 4 students to create a Dragon Family. Where possible, each family will consist of a 3rd, 4th, and a 5th grade student. When 2nd graders move to Latta, they will join a new Dragon Family. This family partnership gives each student an opportunity to meet new friends, establish lasting relationships, and build character together.

The Dragon House teachers are responsible for supporting and encouraging good Dragon Family practices and facilitating an understanding of the character education traits each month. Students will remain with the same Dragon Family throughout their time at Dilworth as much as possible. Dragon Families will meet once each quarter to build community, practice their DH cheer, and celebrate the earning of Dragon Dollars throughout their House.

What does On F.I.R.E. mean?

Around the school, you will notice signs for behavior expectations in the hallway, bathrooms, cafeteria and other places.

F.I.R.E. stands for

being Fair, which means everyone is treated the same and no one is left out

showing Integrity, which means doing the right thing no matter who is or is not watching you.

What does On F.I.R.E. mean? Continued ...

being Respectful, which means showing consideration for others

and being Exceptional. Which means that as Dilworth Dragons, we will always strive to be our best in everything that we try to do.

You will hear “On F.I.R.E” behavior used all over the school.

What are Dragon Dollars?

Dragon Dollars are used as an incentive to support the On F.I.R.E. behavior expectations. All staff members are encouraged to reward good behavior with Dragon Dollars even if there are other classroom incentives in place.

Each house collects the Dragon Dollars quarterly. Both campuses have Dragon Bulletin Boards and Dragon Dollar collection containers by the cafeterias.

The Dragon House earning the most Dragon Dollars is the keeper of the coveted Dragon House Trophy until the next quarter.
