1909

Founded in 1909, the American Home Economics Association was renamed,

in 1994, the American Association for Family and Consumer Sciences.

The National Council

on Family Relations

was founded in 1938.

Parenting education has been part

of American culture for over 100 years.

Important milestones for two long-established organizations are approaching: 120 years for AAFCS, 90 years for NCFR. More recently formed associations, like the National Parenting Education Network, are also marking significant anniversaries.

1996

The National Parenting Education Network, now incorporated, was founded in 1996 as an informal group of parenting professionals.

We propose a

United States

Postal Service

stamp honoring

parenting education.

Parenting education

is about the process,

not the person.

Youth, adults —

parents and those who are not parents

and society at large all benefit.

Parenting educators — and parents know that the work is transformative

in multiple ways. It . . .

Promotes

social-

emotional

learning

Builds

resilience in individuals and communities

Supports children’s

healthy development

We all benefit when parents and caregivers have the skills and support they need to raise children well.

Let’s bring broader awareness

to this important issue.

Parenting education

benefits individuals

and society at large:

business, government

and nonprofits.

Stamps should celebrate the

American experience and honor

enduring contributions to

American society on a theme

of widespread national appeal

and significance.”

We believe that a stamp honoring parenting

education meets the stated USPS criteria:

The USPS selects themes

based on public support.

The Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee

recommends approval of a proposal

based on the number of letters of

support they receive.

Proposals receiving tens of thousands

of letters are most likely to be approved.

Creating a stamp takes time . . .

Proposals must submitted at least three years in advance

of proposed issuance.

Thank you!

Parenting education is not just “would-be-nice-to-have”.

It is essential! Unfortunately, it occupies a cultural blind spot that we must address across all age levels and in all sectors.

Please share our idea – and these resources – with others: individuals, community leaders and organizations!

.

We appreciate your support for creation of

a USPS stamp honoring parenting education.
